www.youtube.com/watch?v=muPQ... Oh! Why not one more Quest for Fame post? I stayed up all night creating a pretty thorough longplay video of this weird beautiful mess being played in MAME. It includes a pretty ridiculous writeup going into the history of "What The Fuck Is This Even?". Enjoy!

It is done! The game is fully dumped and already added to MAME for the next update. Apologies for the radio silence, it wasn't what we wanted, but it was what was necessary to make sure everything lined up perfect and was done right! Grab it here and "NAIL THAT RIFF!" archive.org/details/NAMC...

Bizarrely enough, it is a System 12 (C) with extra middle boards in the stack to add CD support presumably shared across the other NAMCO rhythm games of the time. To my knowledge, it is identical to the dumped Lammy stack, but NAMCO liked making hyperspecific revisions, so this is not confirmed!

and one last thing! mentioned in the thread below is the exorbitant cost of this machine. it's been requested to stay private, but it isn't pretty! as it's a cost that's already been eaten, any extra money raised at this point will be on the material expenses to keep the machine running in public~

caldenza @caldenza.gg · 05/08/2026
holy moly we have already hit the goal! thank you everyone for the support!! >...<!! for a vague timeline, we hope to have this all done and dusted within the next couple months. when we have more updates, you will see them~!

and i want to be as transparent as i possibly can on the vague details, just please understand that some stuff directly involves people wanting to remain anonymous, which i do wish to respect. if you read this far, thank you for taking the time to do so, and i hope your day is wonderful :-) (9/?)

a couple final things, all of the support to this so far has been overwhelmingly appreciated and seriously softens the blow on the final few expenses to ensure the proper parties can come in to save this thing. (8/?)

caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
we want to make sure it's done right this time. this gigantic blob of posts truncates a lot of info and specifics that, quite frankly, i cant fit into a bsky thread proper. this is a decade long debacle in the making, and we hope to have something exciting to show for it soon. (7/?)

as a result, between the five(?) unique titles, there is only a single digit known total amount of cabinets known for each of them, if at all. this may well be one of the last surviving QFF's in the world, with equally little surviving PCB's to boot. (6/?)
171
caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
all of the dedicated NAMCO rhythm game cabinets in this era got extremely limited releases, presumably due to the aggressive nature of KONAMI's legal antics at the advent of bemani. the titles in unique cabinets include Aerosmith QFF, Teknowerk, Guitar Jam, Parappa AC, and Lammy AC (5/?)

caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
the ball specifically got rolling again when another machine, owned by steven tyler himself from aerosmith, came up at an estate sale. the original owner of the first machine paid an exorbitant price to secure it out of sheer love of the game. there's rightfully paranoia, given prior events. (4/?)
151
caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
the cabinet guts that remained were rendered useless without the one of a kind PCB internals, and that cabinet shuffled hands for years to follow from owner to owner before unfortunately meeting its eventual destruction. (3/?)
141
caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
that first cabinet's PCB was sent to a specific mame dumper almost a decade ago after acquisition to preserve, only to be "lost in the mail" (years later this would turn out to be stolen, very long story.) (2/?)
151
caldenza @caldenza.gg · 04/08/2026
strap in, before even getting to QFF we have to cover how we got here. this quest for fame in specific is the second known surviving cabinet of this game, the first known hilariously enough shared the same owner as this one does now. (1/?)

www.gofundme.com/f/fund-expen... Hey! We have the last Aerosmith: Quest For Fame in the world. We're trying to crowdfund to cover the expenses to preserve it. This is a unique piece of rhythm game history, and we plan to place it in a public arcade! Any support would be wildly appreciated!

Some say they've seen the dead cruiser in a flash of lightning around the shadowy curves of the highway Some say he was just a kid who met his fate in a firey crash But anyone fool enough to venture out onto that treacherous road should know one thing There's no turning back.

This is what would be one side panel of a JP WMMT3 machine, part of the upper body construction that encloses the monitor and mounts the topper. The interesting part of this piece is that it presumably is from a location test cabinet. Japanese cab body but fully localized and all that.
