The second one is pretty good fun as well, but the third is poor. The recent one is ok as a nostalgia trip though.

It doesn't have to be limited to this country. There are loads of systems that have been and are used across the world.

There must be enough for an Origin Story episode on voting systems and their impacts somewhere. It's one of the single most impactful things about any democratic system and it's almost never discussed.

That relies on the internal party machinations though. Under such a system people like Truss and Portillo would have kept their seats by way of party seniority despite individual unpopularity. The only other option is to have some form of primaries to decide the list, but that adds complexity.

Party lists move power away from the electorate and to the parties. Voters cannot effectively veto someone near the top of the list. STV is good because it allows people to support their party of choice as well as veto any individual candidate they don't like. It gives more power to the voters.

I don't think they are mutually exclusive. AI is just a tool, not a panacea for knowledge. It shouldn't be used to keep students away from original research, but it might be useful in helping them to understand it.

In a way. The other thing is you can make them test themselves - take the output of one question and in a new chat make it critique itself, and do it multiple times. Where people fall down is asking a single simple question and expecting a complex answer. The more context you can give it the better

People treat AI like it's a fancy search engine, but they don't really work like that. They're more useful when given something concrete to work off. Give it a draft text and tell it to challenge your ideas and be a critic. Even if it's not completely right it can help you think things through.

This live feed is really poor. It claims Noem said that Pretti had a criminal record - she didn't say that. She said that the guy ICE were targeting had the record. a) they didn't report what was said correctly. b) they didn't check whether what they were claiming she said was in any way correct.

I don't think I've seen anyone use 'Judeo-Christian' in the last 10 years without it being a blatant dog whistle.

I love how "Gulf of Mexico" is just bunged in with the rest.

Have a look at a game called Spintronics. It has mechanical analogues for electronic components and teaches what they do in a hands on way. You can build functional circuits and see exactly why they work. They suggest 8+ but if he's interested he'll probably enjoy it with a bit of guidance.

The US doesn't have a justice system, it has a legal system. One which is far too close to its political system. He's a rich old white man close to power. The odds of him ever seeing justice for his crimes were always minuscule.

I think people have wanted an alternative for a while, it just wasn't obvious where to go. The election and Musk's behaviour around it were the push people needed to go and find it (or make it).
