Ah so LLMs operate like senior male academics. Who could have envisioned that technology trained on existing texts could operate in a fundamentally conservative nature

📣 New paper 🎉 Proud to have helped with this nice study by @wlangdon12.bsky.social showing a trade-off between nutritional quality & microclimate of host plants for Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas). Here in England, they choose warmth over nutrition resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Happy Year of the Horse everyone! 🐎🧧 新年快樂,心想事成!祝大家今年步步高陞,龍馬精神,萬馬奔騰,萬事如意! Tricky time finding a suitably "horse-y" invertebrate for y'all, but the Saddleback Catterpillar (𝘈𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘢 - photo by Mathew Orwat) is pretty close imo! 🏇 #LunarNewYear #YearoftheHorse #ChineseNewYear #春節 #Bugsky
Saddleback Caterpillar, Acharia stimulea. A reddish brown colored caterpillar covered in lighter colored short spines that look almost like fur. The middle of the insect is bright green and white, almost like the insect is wearing a saddle.

Periodic reminder that moa de-extinction could lead to net biodiversity loss due to conservation deprioritisation of extant species. The (re)introduction process of any resultant genetically-modified Emus will very expensive www.nature.com/articles/s41... #Ornithology

Spending limited resources on de-extinction could lead to net biodiversity loss - Nature Ecology & Evolution
Use of public funding for conservation of resurrected species would lead to fewer extant species that could be conserved, and consequent net biodiversity loss.

This month and year-round, ESA takes pride in the community of LGBTQ+ scientists who contribute to advancing entomology. ESA is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming professional society for entomologists. #LGBTQ+ #PrideMonth. #EntoDEI 🧵
White text over a gray-blue background reads "ESA Celebrates LGBTQIA+ Pride Month." At right is a partial image of a moth.

figure I should introduce myself on this website! I'm a first-year PhD student in the Entomology program at Cornell, interested broadly in the impacts of climate change on insect populations, and currently developing a project on long-term trends in apple maggot 🐛🍎 happy to be here!
