Newman told The Bulwark, "People are becoming more emboldened to cross Trump as his power wanes. The shared goal of the corporate overlords and ICE is to make people feel powerless, and these actions are a way of resisting that sense of powerlessness."

Happening in America. Representatives can't access those who have been detained. No one can track where kidnapped kids or folks are being held. The video records of these camps are being erased. See how they treat American politicians, asking questions, what are they doing to these poor people?

screenshot from the linked/quoted article. text reads: Sherald's advice to young artists: "A lot of times when you don't know what you're going to make, it's not because you have some kind of block, it's just because you haven't lived out in the world long enough, and so, part of making good art is having experiences, so maybe get out of the studio and don't put the pressure on yourself to make something... If you're out and you're living in the world with your antennas up and you're looking at movies and you're reading and you're having conversations, that's part of art-making as well. It doesn't happen in a vacuum." Image credit: Amy Sherald. A God Blessed Land (Empire of Dirt). 2022. Tymure

160 years ago, the 13th Amendment was ratified, ending slavery. But that amendment came with a sinister loophole: a Slavery Clause that allowed for slavery “as punishment for crime.” We need to pass @repnikema.bsky.social’s and my Abolition Amendment to #EndTheException once and for all!
Text of the 13th Amendment: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The clause “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted” is crossed out.

An early project of the NCNW was to assemble a cookbook that captured African American culture and furthered the cause of integration. The result was the Historical Cookbook of the American Negro (1958), which amplified heritage recipes with historical context to uplift Black women and families. /3
