I'm debating whether to pay the $5 or do the waitlist.... do you feel like the payment is worth it, like is it really a good platform that's worth supporting and needs the funds? I assume that even if you opt for the free waitlist option, there's probably some way to make a donation after the fact?

I think I'm gonna try it out...! Actually, I'm kinda on the hook now because it let me compose a comment to a post (and I was like oh wow can I post anonymous comments without an account? cool!) and I wrote a whole thoughtful reply to one of your reblogs only to find out that when I hit submit it

beautiful! I might use this as the basis of a color palette for a drawing or website layout if you don't mind :o

super cool! also I didn't know there was a Python library for Processing, so that's pretty cool to discover!

Sure, thanks! Honestly I never considered Pillowfort before just because I couldn't get over the idea of having to pay for social media, but I see they have a free option now, so that's nice.

(in my case, i just have collections for posts, and the user id is just one of the attributes on the post... i'm so far not really trying to store data ABOUT a user)

010

vance | caesium tea @caesiumtea.bsky.social · 21/02/2025

anyway, i think this was one benefit of me getting auth set up early on: i never had to manually create a "users" collection, i just used the user id created from auth for everything! i don't know if that's different for your project due to needing to store more data about each user though?

unfortunately it seems like the Appwrite Discord has many more people there asking questions than there are people available to answer them... lots of support threads seem to be going unanswered, including mine from days ago about being unable to delete an "invalid" document :/

i just wrote a 500 word reply to one post there and totally did learn new things in the process! ✨ (of course helping folks learn and make their dream sites come to life is worth it for its own sake though!)

hot tip for any #webdev learner who wants to practice learning by teaching, especially if you're still a bit new to HTML/CSS yourself: the @neocities.org reddit is full of people who are super new to coding websites asking for help with some relatively "beginner level" HTML and CSS dilemmas!

vance | caesium tea @caesiumtea.bsky.social · 21/02/2025

cool! feel free to hit me up if you have any trouble with the auth btw, since that was actually the very FIRST thing i got working on my own appwrite project haha

thinking about starting a new blog (for random musings and maybe a weekly "cool things I found this week" rec list--as opposed to my art blog at blog.caesiumtea.com and dev blog at dev.to/caesiumtea ) and can't decide whether to use bearblog.dev or just roll my own with a static site generator...

Ohhh this is such a good idea, I've been using a giant spaghetti of a Notion page to track coding resources but a format like this would be so much more helpful! PS, I'd be happy to help brainstorm or work on potential improvements to the graphic design after the judging is over, if you want?

If your website's users have to wait a few seconds for a page to load, having something to focus on helps. This is where skeleton screens come in - they're like a sketch of what's to come. Here, Timothy explains how they work & how to make your own. buff.ly/3NE0wSB

bluesky is, apparently, a federated social network that is not federated.

Bing search screenshot for the query, "is blue sky federated?" Below it says "Copilot answer" and then, in large text, "Blue Sky is not yet federated." Below that, in smaller text, it says "Blue Sky is a decentralized, federated social network."

If you have a website or web app, you want everyone to be able to access and use it easily. And this is where a web accessibility audit comes in handy - to help you ensure that's the case. Here, Victoria teaches you how to perform a web a11y audit. buff.ly/4eTxeeA

i'd love to meet some new folks here and make some new friends! also not sure yet exactly what i'll post here, whether i'll make it an art account specifically or a more general personal account... in particular not sure whether i wanna separate out coding stuff into a separate account. 🤔

#introduction hey! i'm vance, and i like to make things! i do lots of kinds of art and crafting, including things like coding and electronics that people don't always think of as "art" (but imo they totally are)! i'm also into TTRPGs, cozy games, PKM, and learning about mental health!
