Really excited about this event @sociologicalreview.bsky.social event next month - come along to hear from giants of feminist social sciences Bev Skeggs and @jolittler.bsky.social about what sociology has to say about gender and class today and why we still need to be having these conversations.

I love cherry ripe! I’m not that much an eater of candy bars but I think they’re very nice if you want one: cherry-flavoured coconut wrapped in chocolate

Drawn back by a wave of post-US-election migration from X spawning many follow notifications. It’s more populated here now, but is it busy with interesting things? I don’t know if I have enough desire to find out. I think the window in which I might have really embraced social media is well closed.

Nah. Too neat, even when it tries to deal with messy. But the forms of capital stuff is an interesting and useful prompt.

There’s a caramel taste to brown sugar, but as long as you’re measuring by weight it’s different not lesser sweetness. Actually I find white sweeter in an I don’t like things too sweet way

isn’t that why Bourdieu argued about not believing economists that money etc was the only kind of capital? Here, you’ve got Randy’s cultural capital (taste, knowledge, distinction), and social capital (communities, networks). I hope bsky isn’t making me bourdieuan, I’m too old for that change

Some more people than when I first checked. That seems to be about the only difference. Then again, given that I never much liked Twitter I couldn’t entirely tell you what is is I want to be here.

If you’re going to be broke while watching the planet fall apart you may as well do it with company who don’t have to sit on the floor

Wow, sorry to hear this. Never had it but I had a friend that did and it looked vile. Good to see it looks like you’re improving.

Except it is easier to not miss the updates of the 2 people you know.

A thought about bsky in its current form. It feels like a room that’s not so densely crowded that you can’t be bothered speaking and wouldn’t be heard if you tried. But it also feels like that cannot last - either it becomes crowded or people to talk to leave because social media is about the crowd

This account is still in a holding pattern till I see what, if anything, happens here. But I’ve gone further than any of the other substitute platforms in having an actual profile image.
