If you'd like to support the creators you watch on YouTube, consider doing so directly instead of them having to rely on ads and sponsors. Many creators leverage platforms like Patreon, Ko-Fi, and even YouTube memberships.

The apps like SmartTube that are delivering YouTube videos directly through Google's own API are not doing anything illegal. They are not hosting the media, they are not downloading the media. It is my understanding that most of them just exclude any kind of code that allows ads to be delivered.

I have received a lot of comments on my recent video covering SmartTube along the lines of "the increased attention will cause it to be taken down" and I wanted to address this. You can see the response from the Director of the ReVanced project below as to their feeling towards increased attention.

Dear Mr Dimitri,

Thanks for reaching out to us. ReVanced is 100% open source and as such it's strength is defined by the community developing the project. It is not unreasonable for people to assume, attention could be bad for ReVanced, however it is actually more beneficial than it would be bad. The basic rationale is that the amount of contributors to ReVanced increases with the amount of visibility and just a slight amount of more contributors already make a big positive impact. Out of this reason it would be a pleasure, if you like to say a word or two about ReVanced. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. In regards of webOS, we unfortunately do not have any resources. However, folks at yt-dlp might be able to help.

Sincerely,
Ohan Melkonyan
Director

I really hate the term "sideloading". I preferred the original term, which was "installing software on a computer that you own"

Flatout, a game from 2005, is still getting updates from it's developers. Last year they updated it with SteamDeck and Steam Workshop support.

I keep seeing people in ON upset with the election results. "We were voting for change!" If that were true, you would have voted for change 2 months ago instead of re-electing the same provincial/municipal govts that arguably have a much bigger impact on most of the things you're complaining about.

I've been in El Salvador all day fighting for the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia. The Trump Administration can lie all they want, but the Court said they failed to show he was part of MS-13. This is about bringing home a man they ADMIT should never have been abducted. I won't rest until then.

Is anyone else annoyed with the amount of GIFs on Tenor that are pretty popular gifs with some random's face deepfaked onto the characters?

As I do every year, all money made in March/April will be donated to the National Scleroderma Foundation in Daniel's name. Last year we donated $250 so let's see if we can beat that this year! EOM is always missed, go listen to his music today <3 open.spotify.com/artist/0YKyQ...

There are other options our there but they're not as great for viewing your photos/videos on the cloud as the ones suggested above. iDrive and Proton drive are popular options.

Ahh yeah I get that. Unfortunately paid is the way to go once you're hitting those limits instead of spreading your stuff across multiple platforms. Look at the family pricing for Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon Photos. Once you split up the costs among a few people the fees are a bit less daunting.

100 1

Caddac @caddac.net · 06/02/2025

Haha yeah, you will always end up paying more for convenience unfortunately. How much storage are you needing?

100 1

Caddac @caddac.net · 06/02/2025

Third would be kind of what you're already doing. I believe OneDrive is the cheapest option but it and the other options (Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, Box) are all going to cost more for the added benefit of how simple they are to set up and accessible your files are. Family plans can be cheaper.

100 1

Caddac @caddac.net · 06/02/2025

Second least expensive would be something like Backblaze or Amazon S3 but accessing your stuff from them would be more difficult as you need to use a web UI to download your stuff to view it. It's not meant for backing up your photos.

Caddac @caddac.net · 06/02/2025

There are a lot of options out there but it all depends on what you prioritize in terms of cost and features. Least expensive would be for you to set up your own local backup system that can be accessed over the web. Takes a bit to set up and has a larger initial cost though. I use the app Immich.

Not Amazon trying to control the narrative around the situation in Quebec. If you're not aware, an Amazon warehouse in Quebec successfully voted to unionize and shortly after Amazon announced they are closing all warehouses in Quebec. They're now trying to insist that it's not due to the union.
