I’m not surprised. In fact, I am wondering how you will possibly limit yourself to just 30.

Turns out getting hit with 60 pounds of metal at max 15 mph is less bad than getting hit with 3000 lbs of metal at 20+ mph.

I think I've well and truly pulled the plug on the rest of the project, but maybe if the stars align, I'll go back to document the project and community that has been such a big part of my life. For now, though, life continues as it always did. I don't plan on leaving the Workshop community!

About two years ago, I started my most ambitious video project yet: a video about the history, community, and future of the Overwatch Workshop. I failed at making that video three times since then. The only thing that ever got made was a sappy, sentimental montage of my fondest memories. Here it is

I fear that for my videos, I relied on DaVinci Fusion (which choked and died if I ever did anything remotely complex) and Motion Canvas (which is maintained very sporadically and requires some level of programming brain), so I don’t have much to offer

Art dump time! Earlier this year for season 01, I had the opportunity to design various assets for my fave faction in the game. I got to redesign Talon's sigil as well as design a bunch of FUI screens for the animated short #Overwatch #acomart

These look amazing! Love the lil technobabble-ish touches. One question, if I may ask, what does FUI stand for?

It is gutting to feel I'd see greater success if I didn't care who I worked for, gave up on my morals, and embraced the latest harmful fad. Grifting has long been a thing, but at present it seems there aren't any consequences beyond one's own conscience and that it is the optimal way to make a buck.

BREAKING: Judge Angel Kelly blocks Interior Sec. Doug Burgum's “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History” Order as "a dangerous precedent of censorship and sanitization" and orders DOI to "restore and reinstall" removed materials "forthwith." ORDER: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Defendants.
MEMORANDUM AND ORDER ON PLAINTIFES' MOTION FOR 5 U.S.C. § 705 STAY OR, IN THE ALTERNATIVE, PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION
ANGEL KELLEY, D.J.In 1872, Congress established Yellowstone National Park as the world's first national park, setting in motion the principle that natural wonders, historical sites, and cultural memory
belong to and serve the public. With over 433 park sites across the United States today, the
National Park system hosts millions of visitors each year seeking to enjoy the parks' iconic
views, monuments to our Nation's history, and memorials recognizing the sacrifice of many.
Beyond the scenic grandeur, the National Park system also serves as a cornerstone of public
learning, providing rich and informative signs, exhibits, and interpretive waysides on topics ranging from civil rights to environmentalism. From the echoes of abolition in John Brown's
Fort in Harpers Ferry, to the genesis of the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement at the
Stonewall National Monument, to the retreating ice of Glacier National Park in Alaska, the
National Parks preserve the multifaceted and multi-layered history of our Nation, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. Often referred to as "America's largest classroom," National Parks
serve in that spirit by telling the stories both of those who write history and those who go
unheard. The beauty of history is the unvarnished storytelling of a time gone by and the delivery
of undeniable truths. The Government's stewardship of these park sites thus carries a responsibility to present history in full rather than in favored fragments.Unfortunately, the Government has disregarded these principles. Under the guise of
promoting American dignity, this Administration seeks to share a limited history by ordering the
removal of all signs, displays, and interpretive exhibits at National Parks that do not align with
its preferred narrative, thereby telling half-truths. In recent months, the Government has torn
down exhibits in Philadelphia's Independence National Historical Park memorializing the legacy
1 162 Cong. Rec. H7207 (daily ed. Dec. 6, 2016).

of people enslaved by the country's first President; removed signage detailing climate threats at
Fort Sumter in South Carolina, one of the most environmentally endangered sites in the country;
and wiped away descriptions of history and science at countless National Parks across the United
States. Not only does this undermine the integrity of the National Parks; it sets a dangerous
precedent of censorship and sanitization. The National Park Service Organic Act, the National
Park Service Centennial Act, and the National Parks Omnibus Management Act, as well as the
Administrative Procedure Act do not authorize such arbitrary and capricious action. The Court
thus GRANTS Plaintiffs' Motion for a Stay Pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 705.Because Defendants deemed it important to strip the parks of these undeniable truths in anticipation of the 250th Anniversary of our great Nation, it is equally important that our shared history be honestly told and fully restored by the 250th Anniversary to properly honor the remarkable achievements of the United States. Accordingly, it is hereby ORDERED:
Plaintiffs' Motion to Stay Under 5 U.S.C. § 705 is GRANTED forthwith.
2. Defendants are ENJOINED from taking any further action to implement Section
5 of Secretary's Order 3431, "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History," at park sites
managed by the NPS pending further litigation in this matter.
3. Defendants are ORDERED to take all necessary steps forthwith to restore and reinstall all interpretive materials at park sites managed by the NPS that, pursuant to the Secretary's Order, have been altered, removed, or damaged in the process of such removal since
May 20, 2025, to be completed within twenty-one (21) calendar days of this Order. Defendants are further ENJOINED from making any further alterations to interpretive materials at NPS
park sites pursuant to the Secretary's Order.

Yeah, commenting before fully reading the article was an error on my part. I also should have been more skeptical about what my interpretation of the statistic implied.

CactusPuppy @cactuspuppy.dev · 03/06/2026
After reading the article, I am realizing that I misunderstood the headline statistic. Still, as the article points out, that does not mean that bike lanes are not incredible quality-of-life investments.

CactusPuppy @cactuspuppy.dev · 03/06/2026
That’s an insane return on investment, if you stop to think about it. $1300 just to add one year of high-quality living to one person’s existence is already a great deal, but for ALL city residents? Amazing.

TIL that I can apply for temporary access to all of the New York Times' resources via my local public library. Public libraries are awesome. Support them, even if it's just using their resources so they can justify continuing to offer them.

Vibe coding? I prefer vibe cooking. Made this mushroom and spinach gnocchi with a side of air-fried chicken completely by vibing what I should add. Sauce too thin? Greek yogurt. Need some zing? Add some torn-up cheese. So much fun. Will try again in the future.

The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me. It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."
I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake

By A Horse

Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food.

I am thinking I would like to try cake.

Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape.

Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy.

Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much.

I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on."

Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to …

This is so, so well-articulated.
People call this friction "grunt work." Schwartz uses exactly that phrase, and he's right that LLMs can remove it. What he doesn't say, because he already has decades of hard-won intuition and doesn't need the grunt work anymore, is that for someone who doesn't yet have that intuition, the grunt work is the work. The boring parts and the important parts are tangled together in a way that you can't separate in advance. You don't know which afternoon of debugging was the one that taught you something fundamental about your data until three years later, when you're working on a completely different problem and the insight surfaces. Serendipity doesn't come from efficiency. It comes from spending time in the space where the problem lives, getting your hands dirty, making mistakes that nobody asked you to make and learning things nobody assigned you to learn.

I imagine GLITCH bent things a little to be more digestible/fit the story, since I can imagine theories going wild if Kinger used sudo: “omg is he THE superuser” etc etc. Plus, I’m not too pressed about accuracy in a computer system that is from the 90s while also being able to simulate minds.

I LOVE how accurate the Unix battle was. Kinger really pulled out so many stops: debugger, perms editing, systemd, mount, and I think a privilege escalation binary/backdoor program of some kind? It'd be cool to see the whole terminal output at some point. AAAAAAAAA- [kernel panic - core dumped]

Honestly, this is half of why I don't bother with CI/CD pipelines for a lot of my small software projects. rsync the project folder, SSH in, attach screen session, restart the process, then disconnect. It's almost deliciously taboo. (Can't do the same with video game builds, alas)
