x.com/KewinSiah/st... Re-sharing on here as I don't have X - many thanks for sharing Prof Siah! Please share across to Gastroenterology groups: our paper identifying gut hormone INSL5 having involvement in bile acid diarrhoea and ibs-d.

Kewin Siah on X: "🔥 study: Insulin-like peptide 5 (INSL5) surges in response to rectal bile acids, linked to urge to defecate & diarrhea severity in bile acid diarrhea (BAD) patients. Elevated in BAD & subset of #IBS-D; predicts better ondansetron response. #Gitwitter https://t.co/CPBztSp6Wv https://t.co/Gysi9uYqrv" / X

Interview on our published paper last week describing how an identified gut hormone is involved in symptoms of patients with chronic diarrhoea: www.cam.ac.uk/research/new...

Discovery of role of gut hormone in chronic diarrhoea could aid development of new tests and treatments
High levels of a hormone found in cells in the gut could underlie many cases of chronic diarrhoea and help explain up to 40% of cases of patients with

And here is the paper on INSL5. LC-MS/MS analysis generated similar concentration data compared to an ELISA. The peptide circulates at 100's of pg/mL in disease state, and almost undetectable in control individuals.

My project from my PhD has been published in Gut BMJ today! The paper highlights an understudied gut hormone INSL5 has a role in chronic diarrhoea, in particular bile acid diarrhoea and a subset of patients with IBS. @richard-kay.bsky.social @ims-mrl.bsky.social gut.bmj.com/content/earl...

Insulin-like peptide 5 is released in response to bile acid in the rectum and is associated with diarrhoea severity in patients with bile acid diarrhoea
Background Insulin-like peptide 5 (INSL5) is an enteroendocrine hormone expressed in distal colonic ‘L cells’. Bile acid receptor agonists are known to stimulate INSL5 secretion in primary cell cultur...

Just posted with the #peptidomics tag and there have only been three... Including this one! We definitely need a Peptidomics list - us peptide MS scientists need to get the field more exposure!!
