An infographic "We're very sorry for the disruption our customers experienced last week. Extremely hot weather was forecast throughout the week, this led to the Met Office issuing a rare ‘Red’ weather warning for the London and Southend areas.
Hot weather can cause a multitude of issues on the rail network including sagging overhead lines, buckled rails and lineside fires and as such there is a risk of severe disruption to the rail network.
We advised customers to only travel if essential. If you did travel, we know that your journeys may have been disrupted and uncomfortable at times due to the infrastructure issues caused by the hot weather.
Heat-related speed restrictions had to be put in place to keep trains running safely. Causing delays and cancellations to c2c rail services and across the UK rail network.
c2c and Network Rail colleagues worked around the clock to keep people moving as safely as possible. Thank you for your patience during this challenging time.
