This is bad: Brad Bradford campaign is using an app that gives supporters points for handing over your contact info without your consent, breaching their own privacy policy. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/09/28… #TOPoli #VoteTO
Screenshot from linked article showing headline "Toronto mayoral candidate Bradford’s campaign appears to have breached its own privacy policy" with photo of Bradford.Screenshot from linked article which reads:

Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford’s campaign appears to have breached its own privacy policy — and possibly the Municipal Elections Act as well, a Canada's National Observer investigation has found.

Its campaign tool, called the Victory App, was the subject of a CNO investigation last week for its use of AI to locate online discussions about Bradford, generate comments for supporters to post and then reward them for posting comments like, “Brad, you’ve actually stood up for us — don’t let them say you haven’t tried.”

But another aspect of the app also raises questions: specifically, its lack of safeguards for voter data. The app at one point let volunteers search for Torontonians by name and see their home addresses and, in some cases, phone numbers. The origins of the data on the app remain unclear, but supporters were told on a campaign call that their contacts would be matched to the official voters’ list. One tag for data in the app was called “Voter List September26.” Screenshot from later in the linked article which reads:

‘You don’t need to freak out about this’

Introducing Bradford’s supporters to the app on the Zoom call, Punia instructed them to give the app permission to access all of their contacts.

“Do not give it partial contact ability, give it full. And what I want to say to you guys here is, you don't need to freak out about this,” said Punia. He reassured them that only contacts they marked as known or potential Bradford supporters would be given to the campaign.

One attendee hesitated as she had over 2,400 contacts on her phone. She was instructed to give the app access to all of them and mark them one by one according to their level of support for Bradford.

“They don't know that they're in the database,” Punia said earlier in the call. “They will not receive anything. They will not know anything.”Screenshot from later in linked article which reads:

‘This is unheard of and should be regulated immediately’

Under updates to the Municipal Elections Act, candidates are for the first time required to obtain a written acknowledgement from anyone they share part of the voters’ list with that they understand the restrictions on its use.

The Bradford campaign’s privacy policy also requires this for all personal data.

However, Canada’s National Observer was not asked to sign a written acknowledgement to access the Victory App, including its “Search and Add” and “Neighbours” functionalities.

Inside the app, tags were visible showing the origins of the campaign’s data. These included door-to-door knocking and SMS campaigns, as well as two entries entitled “500K Craig 10 Jul 26” and “Voter List September26.”

This graph from Bloomberg is giving me life. Put it in my veins.
A graph showing how the Ford Edsel (1958) and Tesla Cybertruck (2024) each performed based on their sales target and actual year one and year two sales. The famous failure Edsel was expected to sell 200k units in its first year. It sold slightly over 50k, and less than 50k the next year.

The Cybertruck had a sales.target of 250k in its first year. They sold around 40k, the next year they sold about half as many. It sold worse than the Edsel in numbers and proportion of target and year over year.

This is worth cackling over.

Statement on Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
July 24, 2026
The Government of Canada is moving with speed and ambition to build the ports, rail,
transit, and other infrastructure that will connect Canada and Canadians to the world.
In the Greater Toronto Area, this is part of an integrated strategy that includes the expansion
of Toronto Pearson Airport, the construction of Canda's first high-speed rail network, and
other major investments in our municipal and regional transit systems.
Billy Bishop Airport is a critical part of Canada's air transportation network located in the
heart of Toronto's waterfront community. As we ensure its future as a vital transportation,
economic, and tourism hub for Toronto, it is important that we do it with and for Canadians.
For instance, the airport recently opened a state-of-the-art customs pre-clearance facility,
supported by a $30 million federal investment.
At this stage, I can confirm that our focus lies exclusively on the approved safety
enhancements, which are currently taking place, and are required to maintain safe
operations at the airport. They are expected to be completed in mid-2027. Toronto voices
will shape any future plans for Billy Bishop Airport. Through this public consultation, we have
listened to feedback on a range of issues, including transportation, economics,
environmental protection, noise, housing, and quality of life.
We will always work collaboratively with our partners in studying the region's connectivity
needs and protecting the interests of local residents. However, we will not pursue any plans
that infringe on treasured public spaces like Little Norway Park or Hanlan's Point Beach,
result in elevated noise, have significant environmental impacts, or hinder Toronto's ability
to build much-needed housing.
As we received more than 87 000 responses, I want to thank my Toronto caucus colleagues
and the Canadians who participated in this consultation process for their vital contributions
supporting safe, efficient, and sustainable operations at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
It is not just about what we build, but how we build. We are building with and for Canadians.
The Honourable Steven MacKinnon, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Transport
Leader of the Government in the House of Commons
Canada
