i'm kinda fascinated by their choice to take everyone who was already well-known and throw them into one group, rather than the strategy of dispersing them across multiple groups with the less known trainees. i suspect it helps that tbl doesn't seem to have a big trainee pool in the first place

in comparison, donghae's ALIVE album, of which none of the singles even charted within top 100, sold 180k+ copies across a good dozen plus fansign and fancall events. i'm not saying that's "wrong"—it's simply a different business style that comes w a diff customer demographic w diff expectations

my benchmark for what non bulk-buy album sales should be has always been akmu, who do not truck with all the fansign and fancall bs. [joy, sorry, a beautiful heart] AND [paradise of rumors] both charted at #1, but the album they're from, flowering, only sold 20k+ copies

and the truth is those crazy album sales and streaming numbers they get? it's BECAUSE they a/o their company have been nurturing these parasocial relationships, bc they realized it was easier to sell 1000 albums to 5 super devoted fans than sell 1000 albums to 1000 casual fans.
