I realized it has been ~1.5 years since I concluded my series of post on JSON optimization. So I got curious how much faster it became since then. 2.7.2 was the last version before I took over maintainership. 2.9.0 was the version I released at the end of the blog series.

This one feels good. No more stupid comments at the top of files. At least in one repo.

What are the odds to find a beer from your favorite Québec brewery in a random Hakodate bar ?

A few weeks ago I got a bit pissed:
After getting some second opinions, I'll be closing this and will handle it as a regular, non-security, bug.

Thanks for your ChatGPT tokens.

We've reached the point where "security researchers" now unironically answer on Hackone with "ChatGPT said:"

Hi <redacted> — thanks for your time. Please run the same test against your domain using the steps I shared; you should be able to reproduce the data leak.

The part about "corporate cultures shift" feels close to home 😢
I don’t want to dwell on drama, but it is perhaps worth mentioning that we reached a sad end for jemalloc in the hands of Facebook/Meta even though most of the people involved were acting in good faith. Corporate cultures shift in compliance with both external and internal pressures. And people find themselves in impossible situations where the main choices are 1) make poor decisions under extreme pressure, 2) comply under extreme pressure, or 3) get routed around. As individuals we sometimes have enough influence to slow organizational degradation, maybe even contribute to isolated renaissances, but none of us can prevent the inevitable.

This seemingly pointless change made a very significant performance difference. Can you guess why? The answer is in the PR: github.com/okuramasafum...
CONST == argument in this case is much faster than argument == CONST

@github.com recently changed their notification email in a way that breaks dark mode in Apple mail. I can't seem to find a place to report it though, aside from the dumping ground that is the community discussions. 😢

I vote for endless heredocs
<<~'' allow for heredocs to be terminated by indentation alone.

If you don't use a literal value that can be optimized out, it then behave as you expected:

The trick is that from the Ruby compiler point of view, this regexp isn't actually dynamic, because (I assume) the peephole optimizer see the interpolation can be resolved statically, and just eliminate it.
