If you’ve recently discovered a love of sensitive men of the cloth who solve murders, have great stores of empathy, and have a dark past… There’s a TV show for you from 2014 called GRANTCHESTER about just that! (It’s still on the air, but the best crime-solving vicar was the OG so start with S1)

HAMNET left @amuredda.bsky.social and me dry-eyed, so we dug into why it didn’t work, how it adapts Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, and why some passing knowledge of Shakespeare might hinder rather than help your appreciation of the film: seventh-row.com/2025/12/12/e...

Spent today noticing about 100 connections between SENTIMENTAL VALUE and Trier’s earlier work that I missed in the moment on first and second viewing… And laughing at my worry that maybe I should have rewatched his complete ouevre last week to prepare…as if I’m not a walking encyclopedia for it.

TIFF Platform competition this year feels like a throwback to 2019: - a film from Netflix with a movie star that doesn’t need the platform - a few up & coming women directors I’ve had my eye on - a Cannes film (?! Breaking their world premiere rule for Pellerin) Really gunning for a breakout hit.

My #Cannes25 thought of the day is that [redacted prominent trade publication] assigning [their redacted bigoted critic] to review [prominent queer film] instead of their [queer critic who has been covering the queer director’s films for them for over a decade] is one embarrassing editorial screwup.

Not only was Soderbergh savvy enough to put Tom Burke in his new movie, but he also told David Fincher to put Burke in HIS movie years ago.
Soderbergh said that Tom Burke, who plays another spy, was someone he’d been “watching for a while.” He said that he suggested Burke to Soderbergh’s bestie David Fincher for his “Citizen Kane” movie “Mank.” “I saw ‘The Souvenir’ and said, ‘I just saw your Orson Welles.’”
