It hasn’t been the warmest day but a sheltered spot along a hawthorn hedge was perfect for a #FITCount - 20 pollinating insects counted in 10mins. You just have to look closely! 👀 @pomscheme.bsky.social

An evening walk through the woods back in May 2021. #PhotoDeclutter

Thrift and Pignut - two of my favourite wildflowers. Still mining memories of cliff paths in Cornwall. Here is the path and the view as you come round into Looe. A lovely walk.

More cliff walk flowers from the 2021 archive. We walked from Talland Bay to Looe and enjoyed some fish and chips in the sun. I remember it was so warm sitting against the wall in the harbour. 🌞 It’s really lovely looking back at these flowers and remembering where we were #PhotoDeclutter

Milkwort, Speedwell and Bird’s-foot-trefoil on the coast path near Looe in Cornwall from a trip back in 2021. Weird to see us wearing facemasks in some of the photos but good memories of warm days on the cliffs and swimming in the sea. #PhotoDeclutter

Citizen science is a fantastic way to explore your local environment while contributing to valuable scientific research. From monitoring wildlife & trees to recording environmental data, there are numerous ways for people of all ages to get involved in conservation projects. buff.ly/ZKD97a2

Listen to the slow-motion buzz of this Red-tailed bumblebee enjoying a dandelion buffet 🌼🐝 Many plants considered as “weeds” are great sources of food for bumblebees. By letting these plants grow this #NoMoMay – and, if you can, beyond – you’ll be making a big difference for bumblebees ❤️

This is one of my favourite spring things - when plants emerge from the soil with such force they punch straight through the leaves lying above them. An old photo from March 2021 in Glasgow. #PhotoDeclutter

This first one is from a trip back in 2019 to the Azores with a close friend. We went for the marine life but were really wowed by the plants.

Was horrified to discover I had over 15,000 photos on my phone 😅 most of these are of plants, which as much as I love them, really aren’t necessary so in a bid to digitally declutter I’m going to start posting old photos here so they can bring other people some joy and then I can delete them!

We are only two days in but #NoMowMay is already bringing me so much joy. I spotted the blue of the forget-me-nots from the bedroom window and had to rush out to see them close up. 🌼🌸

Had the opportunity to test the new FIT Count quick guide I helped write for @pomscheme.bsky.social with some brilliant volunteers from @tcvnational.bsky.social and West Dumbartonshire Council. Perfect weather for counting pollinators!

NEW: a "Quick Guide" to FIT Counts (pdf) is now available from the PoMS website, providing a summary of how to do the counts and how to recognise the insect groups. This is a welcome addition to our more detailed guides, which are of course still available as well! ukpoms.org.uk/news/quick-g...

In the new year we will be working with the Hort-Ecologists to produce artwork and a zine to communicate the results and share the amazing outputs. Huge thank you to The British Ecological Society for funding this project and to the inspiring Hort-Ecology volunteers for their time & ideas 🌱

People responded positively to the more biodiverse or nature friendly squares. The paving slab and plastic grass were associated with boredom, sadness and anger. It was heart warming to see the prose, poetry and drawings that people produced - “I smel bees” had to be my favourite

The Hort-Ecologists designed an observational and mindful activity called “Moments in Nature”. Visitors to the garden were invited to use their senses to explore squares representing different garden types: a flowery meadow, long grass, a neat lawn, a paving slab & plastic grass

We took a participatory approach, working with garden volunteers - ‘Hort-Ecologists’ to share knowledge and collaboratively develop an activity around a research question of their choice. Everyone brought something to the table and our 4 workshops brimmed with ideas.

The Hidden Gardens is a sanctuary green space in the heart of Glasgow Southside. An oasis of nature grown from a derelict tram shed it serves one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in Scotland by tackling social isolation and the challenges faced by more deprived communities.

Reflecting on the wonderful #BES2023 conference in Belfast last week. It was a joy to hang out with so many inspirational ecology people, and an honour to talk about the Hort-Ecology project I ran this summer with Emily May Armstrong at the Hidden Gardens in #Glasgow
