I’m looking at getting a bunch of cursed artifact comics done. I don’t think they’ll all be with kobolds but they work so well for this. Currently have two more in the pipeline. I need to start a spreadsheet to track commissions.

Maybe for some niche markets? I see the metrics for a couple things with decent social media presence, and conversions from facebook are nowhere near what they used to be. Every bit helps, but you can survive without them.

If YouTube can barely sell ads anymore no one else on the internet has any hope. Direct contribution support is probably going to be the norm, and I’d say good riddance.

But placing ads only next to the most popular content is defeating the entire point of algorithmic ad placement that made them successful. Effective targeting is getting more risky and eventually the costs outweigh the benefits and ad revenue dries up for most sites.

I think ads are just doomed to fail as consumers become more aware of the leveraged they provide. Partisans from every angle routinely punish advertisers for the content they are placed next to, so ad networks have no choice but to use only the most boring, middle of the road content.

I hate it when businesses use facebook as their website. You should own a domain. It’s easier than ever and such a minor expense for any business with a physical location. I refuse to log in to Facebook to see people’s terrible pages there.

That's a pretty big leap without evidence. At least 65% of people registered for 2027 have attended a MAGFest before, which is typical. If there was a lot of scalping or something I would expect that to go down. (That's people who checked in before, so not scalpers generally.)

The shape changed, but I think that's just clipping. People have been buying more badges earlier for years. Two years ago we sold out in January. Last year we sold out in November. This year we sold out in September.

To be clear -- we did act on plenty of reports. They just took the form of first-person accounts rather than callout posts or vigilante justice. But getting volunteers to spend time digging through this stuff is *hard*. It's depressing, emotional work and it keeps going year-round.

We almost never were able to act on any of it. If someone is so bad that they need to be banned from every convention ever that's a job for the legal system. People forget we don't have police powers. I can't subpoena someone for their testimony or pull phone records or whatever.

I used to be the person watching the report inbox for a 20k+ attendee event. The number of emails we got that were a dozen screenshots of social media from some third party or just telling us that such and such con banned someone and we should too was absurd. In a volunteer run org it would have been better for them to raise the actual issue with the volunteers involved and let them work to solve it. There are many other ways to mitigate liability that don't involve cutting ties with people who have invested so much.
