More oil is passing out of the Persian Gulf, but the cost of shipping that oil is at all-time high, because of the time and number of tankers needed to move the oil through the Strait of Hormuz and transfer it to larger tankers. oilprice.com/Energy/Energ...

A social media post showing a tweet by Gianmarco Soresi that reads "Man who won't give his employees piss breaks claims many piss breaks on the horizon" above a shared Forbes headline featuring Jeff Bezos standing at a lectern.

There’s no doubt Trump & Co. are cooking the books because the price of gasoline and diesel have been oppressively high for some months now. Prices for food and consumer goods have to be going up more than the amounts reported so far.

They’re all in on the grift, either for money or power or both. Marco sorely wants to be President one day, and seems to think abasing himself now is the way he’ll get there.

Trump firmly believes that whatever is good for him personally is good for the country. Thus, he sees his corruption as a public good.

Black Panther breakfast program was a big deal because it lit a fire under Democratic Party to pass legislation to provide food for school children. This is big effect third parties can have: they can’t win in 2-party winner-take-all system, but they can promote good ideas that major party co-opts.

After Carter’s Iran fiasco, any U.S. President would have gone to war against the Taliban after 9/11. The real mistake was the Iraq War and Bush not early announcing he’d pull out of Afghanistan before the end of his second term.

I attended a 1987 then-Yankees- stadium game in the bleacher, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Went to see more games at suck-ass Shea Stadium though because I was and am SF Giants fan and I had a friend who was a Mets fan.

MLB players get good health insurance. When they retire, they have to pay out of pocket. $2.7M guaranteed salary probably didn’t dissuade Bauers family either. Few pro players with Bauers’ prior career retire before their age 30 season with that kind of guarantee on offer. It’s a good story though.

Almost as prestigious as the FIFA Peace Prize, but I have to ask: why hasn’t Kadyrov received one of those yet? Lord knows, he’s done as much for world peace as Trump has.

He’s going to make rash, ill-considered decisions with predictable results no matter how many unpopular they are. And there’s little possibility Trump can simply back down from his Iran War decision, because Iran will have a big say in the matter. We’ll find out it there’s a floor on people /3

There’s a real good chance that Trump’s aggregate approval ratings eventually fall below 30%, and then Senate Repubs might decide that their best chance of holding the White House in 2028 is putting J.D. Vance in in time to stop the utter craziness. Trump can’t help himself /2

If Dems take both houses of Congress in the upcoming election, I think there’s a good chance Trump gets mot only impeached but convicted. It won’t happen before December 2027, I think, but it could happen. Trump’s approval ratings have been declining at a remarkably steady rate since March 2025. /1

The Republican base seems fine with Trump’s vanity projects so long as he sticks it to the people that hate. It’s the high price of fuel and everything else that needs to be shipped using fuel that bothers them.

because of bat shit crazy Trump-America policies due the relative sizes of the two economies. Life is unfair. I’m not opposed to an anarchy-syndicalist version of smaller nation states that then seek contractual treaty relationships with other states like the EU. /2

Depends heavily on type of independence sought and obtained. Quebec could have greater independence while maintaining close economic ties with Anglo Canada. Brexit was such a fiasco because UK already had advantage of its own currency. Canada will suffer more through no fault of its own /1

Unfortunately, it takes some pretty serious misery like the Long Depression of the 1870s and the Panic of 1893 (which lasted more than four years) or the Great Depression to produce the political will for real change.

You have to be incredibly lucky to be able to surrender to the Ukrainians twice. Meat assaults are the norm after the first prisoner exchange. It’s probably just a matter of time before he gets exchanged again, because why would Ukraine want to hold onto a man like this?

But a lot of conservative people in blue states move to red states when they retire to take advantage of lower cost of living and lower taxes. Retired California law enforcers moving to Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Texas with their big California pensions is a good example.

There are perpetual motion machines, and then there are perpetual motion machines. It’s really too bad no one has yet figured out how to harness tidal action as an energy source, because by the time the waves stop churning, it will be completely irrelevant to an already extinct humanity.
