I’m a horror die-hard, but don’t disagree with this! But there are plenty of reasons why horror movies continue to bring people to the theatre even with the purge of original ideas from mainstream cinema. None of these ideas are examined here, but they would have made for a more interesting article

Other genres – comedies, crime dramas, weepies, non-blockbuster sci-fi – have largely been muscled out of the cinema and on to streaming, leaving variety sorely lacking. Do we really want just one (blood-orange) flavour of film available?

clickbait title aside, the writer came close to a good point that it’s unhealthy for the movies when only one genre can consistently produce original, independent hits. But framing the success of horror as a conscious decision by Hollywood writ large at other genres’ expense is bullshit
