happy wip weds delan's no good very bad day continues (unedited)

As quickly as the tide had pushed him to the rocks, a shower erupted overhead. The soft rhythm of droplets on feathers sounded next to his ear and he found comfort in the muted pitter-patter and scent of wet down. Despite that comfort, another breath trembled from his chest and he winced as the icy sensation shocked his lungs.

Delan had to gasp for his next breath, choking as he did and heaving into a cough that felt like it punched something loose in his chest. His eyes watered and he felt his body crumple, his fall caught by one knee and the arm not supporting the weight of his oldest friend. He felt like he couldn't catch his breath and his vision swam violently. The sounds around him became muffled, as if he was under the turbulent waves again, and Delan shut his eyes tightly before opening them a little too wide in a desperate attempt to regain some semblance of control over his body.

Suddenly, it was like the mounting pressure buried within his skull popped. The world rushed into crisp focus, every sound louder and sharper than before, every scent near-cloying and every sensation on the wrong side of too much. Delan's breaths started to flow easily and soon the overwhelming sensations dimmed, close to normal and yet so very far from it.

He watched his breath puff in the cold air; one, two, three, and then nothing.

His chest was moving, his lungs were expanding — Delan could feel them! — and yet no wispy puffs floated in the dreary air. He swallowed, took a large breath, and placed his hand in front of his lips as he exhaled. Air was expelled but there was no ounce of warmth to it.

Some part of him had known. As he pulled himself up the staggered cliffside and felt his muscles and tendons scream in agony, as he forced his legs to walk even as his thighs trembled and his calves felt like bursting, as he gasped for breath in a muddy field of a kingdom he never thought he'd step foot in, Delan had known he had been drawing his last breaths.

He only wished he had taken the time to savor them.

so far it's not working quite how i want it to but it also says it takes 24 hrs to cure so i'm gonna check my test patch tomorrow and see if it develops a lil more (could also just not play nice with paper)

some last min wip weds 🌸 my oc story "ache" (currently playing with some new, proper names) a lil private moment between vael'nox and delan

Vael examined the room, scanning his surroundings, until his gaze abruptly caught on the imposing figure in the center of the room. His already fair skin paled and his eyebrows rose as he almost seemed to choke on his own spit, an inelegance Delan was not familiar with from the Illumagus. Shock quickly melted to fury, however, and Vael swung around as if to hurl his wrath straight back into the mirror. The surface was empty, however, with no sign of Nox to be found no matter how closely one peered into the depths of the glass.

"This is a cruel trick that I will not tolerate, nor entertain. I do not know what Nox's plan is but you will drop your disguise and tell me where you procured this ring." He hissed with a vehemence Delan had only seen a handful of times before, throwing the ring with surprising force. Some part of the intricate seal scraped against his cheek, leaving a faint cut that welled up with dark, almost black blood.

"I'm afraid there's no disguise to drop, old friend. I am the same man that laughed when you felt the need to announce your engagement, which I still think was a bit ridiculous given your betrothal at birth. I can show you the scar you left me, if it will better convi—" He knew he was rambling, something Delan had never done before, but nerves stung and twisted his insides while his chest felt the absence of a racing pulse.

Lost in his own anxiety, he had been wholly unprepared for the weight that hurtled into his chest. He staggered back several steps, only just managing to avoid slipping on his cloak and sending them both tumbling against hard stone. The Raven Lord instinctively wrapped his arms around Vael'nox, a little mote of warmth flickering to life behind his ribs as his fellow lord sank into the tight embrace.

"You're alive." Vael's words trembled like the last leaf of Talas and Delan could feel his thin undershirt grow damp where the Magus had firmly hidden his face against his chest. Delan had never been the most cautious with his words but even he knew it was not appropriate to correct him just yet. Instead, he wrapped his arms even tighter around his ally, his friend, his brother, and held every piece of him together amidst his gasping, shuddering sobs.

He had spent the majority of his life thinking himself unlovable and unworthy of affection, believing that the other four kings merely tolerated his presence by blood-right, but he knew now that he had been so foolishly, so laughably wrong. What was grief if not a leaking sieve of love left behind?

delan's no good very bad day 😔 (unedited)

In death, reality became a slippery thing coated in oil and nigh impossible to grasp. There was no up or down, no right or wrong, just an inky blackness and a frigid embrace that felt like a thousand knives tearing away at skin and sinew. A scream was snuffed out before it could even be borne, thrashing cut through the silent wake in attempt to struggle free, but it only served to fill aching lungs with coagulated blood and aching regret.

Time was mercurial, passing without acknowledgement, but eventually his consciousness returned in little whispers. Coaxed by the angry hissing, Delan cracked his eyes open slowly and immediately flinched at the light of the physical world. His head felt as if it'd been split by an axe and his body even worse, forcing him to quickly take stock of himself despite the nagging pain behind his eyes.

The knives were apparently not blades at all but great crashing waves that incessantly pushed his body against the jagged cliff face at his back, the stone digging deeper and deeper with the push and pull. Delan tasted nothing but salt and iron on his tongue and knew his screams had
