Two weeks ago we had a nice day visiting the Bikers Festival at Spa-Francorchamps. Beautifull bikes, great people and a good sporty atmosphere. We will be back next year (maybe for the weekend, this year only Friday and Saturday, due to the biggest fire in Belgian history sunday was cancelled).

The WSBK weekend was nice as usual. The Superbike races itself were a bit boring with Bulega winning everything but Supersport, Sportsbike and Northern talentcup were awome to watch.

Here some pictures of a nice Westwallbunker type 105b. It lies on a ridge south of Beckingen. The 6cm strong armored plate was hit by a 5.7 or 7.5cm armor piercing grenade. The light green color inside the bunker is original WW2.

Some pictures of the airbornelandings at Ginkelseheide, Ede, Netherlands. Para's from England, Greece, Germany, France, the Netherlands, America and other nations jump here not only to reenact the 1944 airbornlandings but also to practise in the phantomleap operation.

The Seacommander Pas de Calais messages that around 18:30 a V1 (flyingbomb) crashed 30 metres in front of Lager Hasso. five minutes after the crash it exploded. Hasso was a storage for seamines and torpedo's partly underground. Today the concrete part is still visible, the mine is now a quarry.

This is the part of the landdefenses (in German; Landfront) that was attacked otd 81 years+. These are some of the still visible parts of the dry AT-moat (in 1946, Geoportail). Other parts of the LF just lacked these because the terrain was assumed tank free (forrests, slopes, swamps and brooks).

Yesterday at Camp Nijverdal, a nice diverse display of British and Canadian vehicles used in WW2. Today we remember the liberation of the Netherlands, the vehicles will make a combined convoy with the American camp at Deurningen. With about 350 vehicles the column will be long. The motorcycles.

There also is a special 5cm KwK Doppelschartenstand that even had a extra tobruk for a tankturret. The bunker is of a special design with many different shapes to get the best results when firing at the landing enemy.

The "back" of Cotentin was not as well protected as the bay where later the beaches would become D-Daybeaches. But still they do have nice bunkers, you have to do a long beachwalk but it will pay off. Especially in the summerevenings when the sun is low. Lots of small Tobruks but also nice type 676.

The area of Cherbourg has it share of bunkers in all kinds of use and some are special. This is a picture of a commandbunker type 608, this one has a non standard observationpost added. It was once covered by a steel plate (probably a 7P7 -10cm thick). It is located at MKB Brommy.

Yesterday was one with really good weather, ideal to visit the memorial at Keizersveer, it is just a piece of polder but in the end of 1944 a place where soldiers desperately fought for their life.

Today a nice drawing from the German Bundes Archiv, this bunker was only built in the Festung Hoek van Holland (i thought 5 times) and only one is left. It can hold 30.000 liters of water. No official type number yet but it could a type 53.

Almost 20 years ago i had a very bad experience when on vacation to France, tents flew through the air in the night and it was raining for most of the week but luckily there also was a day of sun, so here is a sunny 621 crewshelter at the airfield north of Calais (Stp Brück - Wn d).

Every year in September for a week the windmills of Kinderdijk in the Netherlands are lit. always a bit lucky when there is no rain or wind so you get nice reflections on the water. You get twice as much for free (we are cheapass Dutchies).

This is one of the coolest bunkers ever built by the Germans, it has a revolving concrete turret. This way the gun could fire 360 degrees but also keep its 2 metre reinforced concrete cover. Only one was built at Calais, near Brest another was being built and more were being designed and planned.

The "scharte" of the German 38cm battery Todt is huge. Truely impressive just like the rest of the bunker. The battery has four of these casemates, one being a museum, one is a exploded mess, one is closed and one is still visitable (except the lower floor), so much to see and to learn here.

According to a resistance document Deventer bridge was missed during a bombardment and the bombs fell in the citycenter and killed 30 to 40 people, the sentiment among the population was "not favorable" for the airforce pilots. 6 Februari 1945 it was also bad 61 civilians did not survive the attack.

In the autumn and winter the high waterlevel is evident and the places where the ground for the trenches was extracted are full of water but the trenches themselves are just a little moist from the recent rainfall/snow. The whole complex is worth a visit, the trenches and bunkers show the real deal.

This part was important because of the road and railway cutting thru the fortified-line, MG, gun, personnel, command and observationbunkers were built. because of the high waterlevel the trenches were not dug in the ground but made in heaps of earth that was dug up next to it.
