I might start posting again soon at this rate! So much on currently. Wonderful to see you as always Nat 🖤

Thank you - and I did not know about this piece! I have just found it. That's fantastic to see, so pleased you were able to have a proper chat with him.

I'm his son, and no, we didn't put anything out publicly. Not as yet anyway. But the news of his passing is indeed true.

They like making it hard for you, don't they! No rest for the wicked, it seems! 🖤💅🦇

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 23/03/2026

I imagine. Good luck and keep me/us up to date! In the UK, if you pass with minor corrections as I did, you're informally a doctor and can celebrate (you'd have to try to fail from here). After I submit corrections it will be formalised in summer. They want to publish it as a book which is nice.

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 23/03/2026

Excellent!! Congratulations! 🙏❤️🖤🦇🎉 How does it feel? When I submitted mine I was both relieved + had post-submission anxiety about how I should have done x, y and z. I also spelled one of my examiner's names wrongly in the thesis - turns out he didn't care, he never even mentioned it in the viva!

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 23/03/2026

I'm so happy you are too! I have not posted for a while since I am sooo much other stuff to do, but when thesis corrections are done in May it's back to Bunika promo 🖤

Weird people unite! (or not if that's too weird)

Wow, just down the road [and across the river] from me. Love the PoW. Wonderful place, never tire of it 🖤

Hi Alda, welcome to the dark side of BlueSky [the best side]!! 🖤🦇🖤

010

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 14/11/2025

It's almost intentional at this point!

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 21/10/2025

Haven't used an AV program since 2017. Not really needed on Linux, though I can only imagine how annoying they are now, they were bad enough then!

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 18/10/2025

People who all-out hate AI really are not thinking about it. It's a massive and highly nuanced area which has plusses and minuses.

000

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 30/09/2025

And your art captures it perfectly 🖤

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 30/09/2025

Beautiful city. Wish I could have stayed longer - I was only there for one night but yes, highly highly Gothic! That whole region - Hungary, Slovakia, Austria is perfect definitive Gothicism 🖤

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 30/09/2025

Yes you should be worried, since it suggests a breach of academic confidentiality. If I were you I would ask the colleague diplomatically about how it got there and/or tell your supervisor.

000

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 30/09/2025

The system is fucked and there are too many who still believe that it's OK for it to be that way. But I think it's generational [and definitely institutional], and with time and the right people it will improve.

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 29/09/2025

The ghosts just don't want you to see them 💅

020

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 29/09/2025

I am leaving my specific discipline after this. I won't leave academia, but certainly my area. Many peers who I respect have moved on. Why don't I help change it from the inside? I have other places of learning to go and see 🙏

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 29/09/2025

That's a surprise, but also not!

010

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 28/09/2025

Some supervisors are super quick to reply and some not, as you well know [as in months or never]. And the quality of feedback is so relative. Basically the system is fucked, though there is hope. I will do my best to help change it for the better. This is about learning, not suffering.

Much better now that you're back! You're such an important part of our gothy/academic/folkloric circle. You are very much valued, respected and appreciated, Nat! 🖤🦇🖤

Omfg I've been laughing about this for too long now 🥲

A subscription bed 💀💀💀

100

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 23/09/2025

I've done both recently. If I could do it again I'd do self-build, even though it is messy, it's fun [mostly]! And of course you have more options in hardware + price.

010

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 23/09/2025

Maybe it was some sort of mission creep. I notice these days you have to have an MS account to use Windows 11. I'm sure that wasn't always the way. Certainly not on Ubuntu/Debian! They don't even ask for an email address. Nothing [popcon notwithstanding].

100

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 18/09/2025

Well, the draft versions they saw were a mess so I understand why, but I also knew I would be able to clean them up sufficiently in time. Regarding being drained, I also felt the same and my experience was not a positive one overall, it was the complete opposite. All we really have to do is finish.

120

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 16/09/2025

Never seen, it but my father, a film director, rates it highly. I might check it out!

010

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 16/09/2025

My supervisor suggested I might want to extend, but after 8 years I think an extension would make me crack! Plus I don't think it would have been that productive since my pace is rapid once I engage properly. Good luck on your work! You're getting there! When's the deadline?

120

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 16/09/2025

Thank you Nic!! 🖤🦇🖤

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 15/09/2025

Finally my PhD thesis is submitted! After 8 years of tribulation and hardship. To all those who have had similar experiences, and also to @nataljastgermain.bsky.social, utmost respect! Soon I will get back to querying Bunika! But first, some decompression [and the viva]! Have a good night, all! 🍻 🖤

It's funny, when I went to Abu Dhabi it's a mandatory retina scan for each passenger. If you don't want to do it, then, well, you can't come in! So I just got on with it. Good point about social media, I didn't consider that aspect about police demanding data from that!

100

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 20/08/2025

You are completely correct! Also, while the system itself [KWS] is secure, the OSA, section 100, seems to allow Ofcom to demand the same info from these companies, even naming individual users and their interests :( The box may be strong, but I don't want to put my stuff there in the first place! 🖤

100

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 20/08/2025

It seems an attempt to force one's hand. No DM access is crazy. It's not BlueSky's fault, as we all know, there's nothing that they can do. But this law really seems to be about nothing but surveillance and porn is an easy target!

110

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 20/08/2025

This is a very good point and one I didn't think of. It potentially removes online safe spaces and safe channels.

010

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 20/08/2025

Excellent question - I am against the implementation. I absolutely agree with the principle of protecting children, but I do not think that's what the OSA is REALLY about. I see it as dishonest, flawed and ultimately counterproductive. This is not the right way to do it, to my mind :(

Bunika Vampire @bunikanovel.com · 20/08/2025

Due to recent changes in the UK law [the "Online Safety Act"] my DMs are locked behind mandatory photographic ID / debit card verification. Since I refuse to do this I have no DM access. Please email me if you want to get in touch privately! My details are in my profile info 🖤🦇🖤
