Terminally online for the last quarter-century and yet so very new to all things social media. Let's see how it goes.

Also correct re: the cover, but i won't restrict my disgust to just the pictufe on display. There is a deeply misogynistic worldview apparent in such imagery that is not limited to any age. It doesn't get better just because the target of such misogyny happens to be an adult.

I remember watching a Let's Play of Venba a while ago and loving the idea, but then i forgot the name of the game and couldn't find it any more. Thanks for being here, reminding me of a game i wanted to try playing with my partner.

Absolutely loathe how that image reduces women to their reproductive functions.

Does that actually work? Off the top of my head i'm not sure that the copy ability is actually a copiable value. (i guess if opp has a clone in place for which they chose not use its replacement effect, together with an anthem that would make it survive...)

I am not a rocket engineer by any stretch, so take with loads of salt grains, yet i doubt that more than one launch a day is feasible, let alone realistic. Assuming that, even the most optimistic projection would assume dozens of launch facilities. My expectation is that way over 100 are needed.

Two things immediately spring to mind: - will there be electric vehicles or do we just entirely ignore the last decade? - will the gas tank behave similar to a flashlight battery in a horror game, i.e. empty after 5 seconds of continuous use?

It's curious to watch this from the outside, so to speak. I'm not particularly active on social media and mostly limit myself to bsky. So i did not see the original influnecer posts generating the hate, nor the hate itself. I only see the people on here lamenting being hit by said hate.

I am not a native english speaker, so correct me if i'm misinterpeting, but... The way this sentence reads to me is "a battle between the America-loving communists and the America-hating communists". Either way, according to Mike Johnson, apparently America is Communists all the way down.

A female Maine Coon enthusiastically grabbing onto a cloth banana toy.
The cat is lying on her side and has her paw and mouth firmly attached to the toy which is held above her. The hand holding the banana is visible at the top of the image

So i don't want to disparage OP, simply pointing out that democatization of energy production will also raquire changes in housing affordability

So looking at just the power production issue does limit the target audience to current homeowners (i doubt that 'future homeowners' is an actual class of people large enough to be worth counting).

Solar panels are still a good idea, as is making them affordable. Both electricity and heating can profit from community-level infrastructure, making it more resilient and reducing losses based on transmission distance. Making this a reality will run up against housing affordability however.

Or perhaps the ever-increasing breakdown of corporate oversight means companies find new and 'exciting' ways to cut costs, e.g. by no longer sorting out rotten or damaged items, ignoring sell-by dates etc.

Is this the first an AI company is actually licensing their training data? I would see this as a good thing, personally. So why the secrecy? Being able to shout 'we do not train our models off stolen data' from the rooftops sounds like a great marketing opportunity.

Yeah, that sounds familiar, unfortunately. In the end there is just no technological solution for 'thinking it through'. There are any number of standards and patterns supposed to make lives easier and projects more resilient, but they all require brains to apply correctly.

Containerization is great in many ways. So are dependency managers. The issue comes when these tools are used to hide complexity, not reduce complexity. Necessarily only very few people will still know how to deal with that complexity once something breaks (and it will, eventually).

I remember when Maven et al were our solution to dependency hell, right before dependency complexity shot through the roof. Same problem: hiding the complexity does not make it go away, it just ensures that there's fewer engineers that understand it enough to fix nontrivial issues.

Ugh, let's not go there. Since the typescript i get to access is run in a container that's started by a java application underneath, i get to see fun little error codes that someone with actual backend access needs to look up for me. And it's either some stream conversion crap or a memory leak.

buemmschaf.bsky.social @buemmschaf.bsky.social · 28/05/2026
Yeah, i got late to that party with a Typescript project. It's basically impossible with Java et al, the IDE & builtin compiler will give you shit about it. Typescript just... lets that exist until weirdness happens.

I sometimes miss the forums of old. A myriad of tiny highly-specific spheres of interaction, all their own little bubbles, and i got to freely hop from one to the next, depending on what i wanted/needed that day. They all had their problems as well, but it was/felt easier to escape the bad.

buemmschaf.bsky.social @buemmschaf.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
I feel like the 'Bubble bad' take stems from an assumption that people within that bubble only perceive what's in it and nothing else. It's monolith thinking, the assumption that any one person can only exist in a single bubble. (To be fair, that is how i understood the term as well)
