Spot on! Mental illness is a REAL problem. However, somehow connecting it to guns and then summarizing it with "Mental illness=Gun Violence", is just a distraction and not true. I have dealt with family members who suffered greatly from mental illness, NONE of them have ever picked up a gun.

On that point we agree. All I am saying is we have to move away from the rhetoric of "It isn't just guns, it is (also) mental illness." Mental illness effects people in different ways and people on "both sides of the aisle". How many of these shootings do we see outside of the U.S.?

While you are somewhat correct. Those saying that it is JUST a mental health issue, are intentionally distracting from the source of the problem....easily and readily available guns....to anyone, sane or otherwise. People committing these crimes, probably were viewed as "sane", prior to the crime.
