Two months earlier, when my friend Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, threatened to impose a surcharge on Canadian electricity exports to the U.S., in retaliation against U.S. tariffs, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick publicly accused Canada of acting like Ukraine (in my view, a compliment, of course).
He said the American President "needed to break some guy in Ontario who said he was going to tax American energy 25 per cent" and that the Canadians needed to "just say thank you." In a private conversation that a Canadian business leader recounted to me, Mr. Lutnick threatened to send U.S. troops across the border by sunset unless Canada backed down. (Mr. Lutnick has no military authority.

The CAQ was despised for good reason, as they were completelyincompetent and left the province much worse off. A lot of Francophones distrust the Liberals and see them as corrupt. That leaves the PQ, unless you’re a conservative. The vote was a lot closer than the results indicate.

Federalist Quebecer here. This news is not nearly as dire as it would seem. This is long but worth a read if you’re interested.

There is a reason Charles Milliard is happy with tonight's results. The poisoned CAQ chalice Frechette inherited from Legault has now been handed off to #PSPP and I doubt he has even half Frechette's
competence in dealing with it. We're in dire financial straits and now that's the PQ's problem.
As we can see from the CAQ's complete obliteration, Quebecers are in no mood to be charitable with their masters, and Duhaime will be a nasty opposition voice with a much bigger platform than before and an easy target with the thn-skinned new Premier. Milliard didn't WANT to win

Meanwhile, the lightweight PSPP is high on his own fumes, while the much smarter and wiliee Carney is only going to be poised to completely eat his lunch, when it's convenient for him. Remember: Carney has roughly double the support (54%) of PSPP (28%) of Quebecers. Recall: PSPP has no experience.
If he wants a budget passed, he'll need the support of the PCQ, so that'll mean gutting services AND cutting taxes, to please creditors.
There is 0 incentive for either the
PLQ or QS to go along with that.
Neither party has anything to lose by forcing an election in the Spring over it.

3 way vote splitting led to PQ win.The Con wins near QC City baffle me. Liberals almost sweep the Montreal area. Popular vote: PQ 28% Liberals 24.3%, Cons 20.7%. We didn’t vote for a referendum, but voted against the CAQ who won 0 seats. Could be a lot worse, at least it’s a minority gov’t.

We’ve driven regular Toyotas for years and loved them, but had a Toyota EV which was absolute garbage. We traded it in for a Ford Mach-E before all this craziness with the US started. At least it’s made in Mexico. I love it, but wouldn’t purchase in the current climate.

Thought that this plant was dead in April. I overwintered it in the basement & it was nothing but a twig. Planted it outside once danger of frost was past.The flowers opened only last week, and it’s already time to bring it inside with an overnight low of 8°, so repotted it today #Canada #Flowers

Definitely the smartest thing I’ve done this year. I bought 12 lovely Canadian lobsters in May when they were cheap. Cooked, shelled, vacuum-packed and froze them. I bought a small one ten years ago and was able to propagate it, so I now have three. They spend most of the year indoors because I’m in Quebec, Canada. 🥶 I find that pruning them agressively keeps them healthy.
