Uika & Sakiko: In Our Reverie

Sakiko and Uika (Hatsune) playing together in the garden.

The water droplets sparkle as they splash us,
graced by the light of the morning sun.

Saki-chan
is in front of me
laughing so much, she's dazzling.

Saki-chan
is by my side
having so much fun that her voice bounces with pure joy.

It's all like a dream.
Like this is all just a lie, like I'm not experiencing reality.
But this is indeed
my newfound morning.

This is our start.
We can start over, fresh.
...Saki-chan, I love you.

Ave Mujica: The Banquet, Carpe diem

Ave Mujica gathered together before a concert.

Nothing shall get in the way of me, who has ascended to Godhood.
I shall not yield to the whims of fate.

No matter how the wind blows, or what raging waves come crashing down,
I will continue protecting this band.
That is my vow.

Each of us
carries different things in our hearts,
yet we are bound together in a band.
...Bound together by Ave Mujica.

We have sworn to be together,
for the rest of our lives,
in sickness and in health,
no matter what.
So allow me this declaration.
To suggest that tonight, in this moment, in this very blink of existence,
we are to utterly enjoy ourselves.

Sakiko: Shouting Against the Absurd

I fear I may be consumed by the waves
of darkness
and adversity.

Even if I shout as loud as I can,
my presence may drowned out and washed away.

But still, I shout.
To dispel all that threatens to corner us.

The absurdity of this world.
My fate.

I can't hold back any longer, and I shout.

Even if I were to make an enemy of everything,
the "me" who would sit quietly and obey demands
is long gone.

Translation notes
"To dispel all that threatens to corner us." / 取り巻くすべてを吹き飛ばすように
"Surround" isn't wrong for 取り巻く, but in my head, the word means more like to corner and control.
Also, she's not shouting just for herself, so I wrote this line as "us" not "me."
In the actual scene, she says あなたとわたくしを (you and me) in reference to this word.

ただ黙って従うだけの『わたくし』はもういないのだから
She's changed from saying her past self is "dead" to just "not here anymore." Went for "long gone" to kinda meet the ideas in the middle.

Nyamu: Whining in Private (Only translation note here is she's not really speaking in her dialect like she usually does when alone.)

Nyamu crying to her family over the phone.

Uu...
Just hearing Ma's voice made me
act all whiny, I'm so pathetic!

Ma's voice is just
so nice and warm,
she cheers me right up.
She's reminded me that my whole family's out there cheering me on.

I don't have time to be whining!
Look at me, drinking my troubles away and complaining!
Today's the only day I'm gonna do this!

I've got stuff to do!
This is my dream,
and I've gotta get to the top!

Umiri: The Binge Shopping Incident

Umiri holding a ton of shopping backs in her arms.

And... there.
Phew. Now I won't hurt my fingers
carrying all this around.

However...
Perhaps I purchased a touch too much.

Though it does ring true that
the heavier the load, the lighter my stress feels.
Well, then there is no problem, is there?

This is necessary to cleanse the soul.

After all, there is still much I must do
in order to revive Ave Mujica.

Thread of my translations of Ave Mujica's Snapshot Diaries Uika: The Lie of the Girl Who Loved the Stars

Hatsune looking at Sakiko in Shodoshima, after Sakiko says "Hatsune is the one who loves the stars."

You... did it again.
You found me again.

Just like you did on that day
when you said I was like the moon.

Once again, you've seen right through me.

We shouldn't be together.
And yet...
And yet, you still...!
Why are you so... Oh, you are always so—

The wind blows by.
In the distance, the whistle of the ferry rings out.

As for the sky... it's shaking.

As dusk draws ever nearer.

Translation notes
"You found me" / 見つけてくれた
This has a double meaning. Sakiko found her in a literal sense (going to the island), but in the context of Hatsune's story, Hatsune is referring to how Sakiko discovered her, Hatsune, the true self beneath her "Uika" mask.
This is why she's saying "again" and "just like that day you said I was like the moon."
As a child Sakiko saw through her mask, and saw "Hatsune," and again she has reached into the darkness and pulled at Hatsune's hand, not any mask of hers.
The Diary uses this line in repetition, so I opted to translate both readings in.

"Why are you so... Oh, you are always so—" / どうしてあなたは——いつも
For someone like Uika who has an obsession with using Sakiko's name, the fact she uses あなた here is quite significant. It has a sort of subtle intimacy to it. She's only ever used this for her in songs and as Doloris.

Mutsumi: Shutting My Eyes

Mutsumi hugging her guitar solemnly in the basement.

"Mortis of Ave Mujica."
That mask is shattered. Now, what's expected of me is to be...
"Minami Mori's daughter." "Wakaba's daughter." "Mutsumi-chan."

"Your popularity has boomed." "Has your mother commented on it?" "How about your father?"
"I" can't meet these expectations.
"You're a natural!" "Perfect!" "Your future is so bright!"
If "I" open my mouth, everything will fall apart.

But I have to endure and meet those expectations. Do something, anything.
As I do... ah. Again.
Cracks start to form.

"I" have to do even better.
So these cracks don't spread further.

Translation notes
The Japanese puts spaces between "I" and the rest of the sentence.
This is to put emphasis on Mutsumi's sense of self, and that this is the point of view of a specific alter who is struggling to fit into assigned "roles."

それでも何か　何かこたえなくちゃ
Kotae is not written in kanji here, so there's multiple ways you could read the line.
The official localization went with "I have to give them some kind of answer."
This isn't incorrect, but I don't think it gets the full nuance of the line across.
Kotae can also mean to endure/put up with something, or to meet expectations, and it felt important to me to get that across rather than just the idea that she has to say something to them. Because to Mutsumi, to force herself to be what others want her to be is a sort of endurance, and is what makes her (and inevitably the band) start to crack.

Little thread on Ricochi and some of her history with English music For those who don't know, "My Heart Will Go On" is actually the song that inspired her to become a singer. You can absolutely feel that inspiration in this karaoke cover she did of "Let It Go" in 2016 (she had just turned 19!)

I can't help it I'm obsessed with the specific ways Hatsune attributes self-harm to herself. "Getting ripped apart by the waves until I become one myself" is so evocative of the kinds of things that probably ran through her mind when she heard her father died. Strangling herself means she can't sing
