The weather was clear and sunny, but a lot of the smaller rivers were still frozen and on one stretch the sea was frozen, never saw a frozen seashore before. We drove up through Poland and visited all three Baltic states for about 4 days each … it left us wanting to see so much more.

We went to Tallin and Narva in March this year … we loved Estonia Tallin was beautiful, Narva was “different” but we enjoyed it too … even the practise invasion alarms each afternoon 😁 We even had a souvenir memento sent to us after we got home, in the form of a speeding ticket to pay online 😂😂

Ah OK .. that’s probably even more expensive than Germany as a proportion of relevant income when the wages between the two countries are compared…. in Southern Italy where we live, the fuel ( though apparently cheaper) is eye wateringly expensive as a percentage of disposable income levels.

Er … that’s in euro PER LITRE ! Which works out at $14.40 per imperial gallon or over $12 per US gallon …. So you need to add another $5 per gallon to your price to begin to feel the financial pain that the US is causing the rest of the world.

#69thsb.bsky.social Just back in Ireland after driving up from Italy and then sailing on the Boulogne - Cork car ferry. Opened the front door to find a NAFO mailday occurred in our absence. It was a nice surprise welcoming us back… though we will be reversing the trip going back next week.

The cheapest and dearest we saw today on a 850 km drive up Italy … tomorrow we cross into France which supposedly is the most expensive country in Europe for fuel at the moment, so we will fill up at these prices first.

Filled my van with diesel yesterday and my eyes are still watering. It cost me €180 at €2.29 a litre … my first ever car only cost £200 to buy A cost of €10.39 or $12 a gallon. The old joke about doubling the value of a car by filling it, is coming back into fashion. Thanks for nothing America !!
