Horst Wessel (1907–1930), an SA member killed in a clash with Communists, was turned by Goebbels into a Nazi martyr. His funeral became propaganda, and his song, the Horst-Wessel-Lied, became the party anthem, boosting SA morale, recruitment, and glorifying violent sacrifice.
