Cross reference Airbnb registration numbers (on the qc site) with the municipal tax records, and you’ll find that 95% of registrations are fraudulent (claiming that owner is renting out portion of their full time residence). Do a little journalism please, it’s all there, on record.

From the perspective of banks, it’s a brilliant idea.

Absolute insanity, no one can afford that. This will kill the city.

A good take. An “improviser” can only keep running through random doors for so long until one leads into a dead end.

Acting on Trump's order, federal officials opened up two California dams
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers just opened up two California dams. A spokesperson says the flows are 'controlled' and being coordinated with local officials.

This is kind of wonderful news, as we have become so isolated from each other, spending more time online consuming content, forming opinions and having… “discussions” — perhaps the saving grace will be the remnant reason and humanity embedded in these models that we more and more interact with.

The “we’re winning” thing is super in line with this — as long as their team is scoring, that’s all that matters. The lack of any benefit, be it personal or to the immediate community, does not seem to factor into it at all. People seem willing to sacrifice a lot to spectate “winning”.

I’m still getting a handle on it, but so far I’ve found that R1 is better for, well, reasoning tasks. I’ve only played with the 7B/Q8 model locally, but it seemed quite competent for the size.

Good. These are the near-future means of production and powerful tools today — we don’t want them to remain in the hands of the wealthy few

Luckily the true PP stans are a tiny if vocal minority. What matters is the moderate cons — hopefully the disaster down south begins to play out in full soon enough to give them a preview what is at stake here.

Huh… what a different tone from the generally blustering and dictatorial Legault. A mistake, I think. Trump is a bully, you need to figuratively punch him in the mouth to gain respect. Are you telling me L’ego is just the same, happy to tread on the weak but folds in face of a larger force?

A/v authenticity: this is an actual use case for a blockchain-type ledger. When a source releases media, the “signature” (~checksum equivalent, not saying this is trivial) is added to the blockchain (akin to a crypto transaction). Can be used to verify source authenticity in perpetuity.

They’re agents of chaos; uncertainty and instability bring profits to the already rich, just look at the insane transfer of wealth that happened in the initial years of the pandemic. These bros are here to destabilize.

This reminds me of that old War Games movie - “the only winning move is not to play”. Let’s see AGI replace C-suites and boards, conclude that endless growth is unsustainable, and dethrone capitalism with something new we’ve not been able to conceive/implement.

What’s “classic” to me about this is the complete lack of any kind of vision, angry boy just wanted to tear things down, but not a speck of an idea of what to build in its place. He almost got the culprits right (“1%”), but the binary dem/rep programming won out in the end.

It would be useful to expose the moneyed interests that precipitate this change — Poilievre is like a tepid soup made from Harper’s laundry water, but he subscribes to the same playbook: blame minorities while stealing and selling off everything. Nab those keen to buy, wine well stop the decline.

I like this version better: me and my family on one track, Bozos, Zuck and fElon on the other track, and Luigi at the switch. I trust Luigi to do the right thing, every time. We all know what the right thing is, and there’s absolutely no moral quandary here.

We can sow foment and discord and drive infighting, hoping for a civil war and a balkanization of the US into several culturally distinct regions. If they’re divided and fighting internally, they’ll be much less of a threat. IIRC this is what the Russians are angling for 🤷🏼‍♂️

My quiet little hope is that the inevitable disastrous tailspin the US is headed for comes before Canadian elections, so we get a good chance to see, smell the manure, and wake up.

What’s often missed in the bike-vs-car “debate” is that A LOT of cyclists are also drivers. They have licenses, they own cars, but they choose not to drive whenever they can avoid it. I wish those stuck in cars understood that — we were them at some point, just refused to accept it.

Why wouldn’t the army be split ~50/~50 like the rest of the country? If anything, they probably lean more republican - given that in a volunteer armed forces so many recruits come from disadvantage. Identity politics is partly what got us in this mess; the real divide has always been rich vs poor.

In my line of work, you take the first idea, put it aside, take the second idea, put it aside, struggle to come up with more different ways to solve that same problem, then finally put all these ideas side by side and evaluate which one is “best”
