muse.jhu.edu/pub/15/artic... I suppose it could be this. No bother. If you can't remember anything at all like this then it mustn't've been you.

My memory has been faulty before, but I have a very strong feeling. ChatGPT has suggested Helen Gurley Brown's, “Sex and the Office,” in Playboy, July 1964. It's possible that the article was actually a feminist response to this article (and others like it), rather than the thing itself.

@robertsaunders.bsky.social Might you possibly remember which text you set us that answers this question?

Survivorship bias is empirically incorrect. Here is a careful study worksinprogress.co/issue/agains...

Against the survival of the prettiest - Works in Progress
Many modern buildings put up today seem uglier than traditional ones around them. Some say this is because we’ve torn down the ugly old buildings, and only see the survivors. Are they right?

Released violent criminals have murder rates of 100-1,000x genpop. But violent criminals often spend much more than half their time outside. Perhaps we’re just disagreeing with the definition of marginal.

The marginal imprisonee is committing many crimes per year. I think your estimate of the cost of a car theft is way off. It’s not the value of the goods. It includes damages to norms, psychological harms, compensatory effects.

Keeping norm destroyers away from the gen pop is one of the most high impact things we can do as a society.

Burglars generally do at least dozens and often >100 burglaries per year, and it’s rare that they only commit burglaries. Good examples in the piece at the top of the thread. But obviously there will be a handful imprisoned who cost society less than £30k. But about 100k are free who cost over £30k

We should only lock up people who do more than £30k of damage per year. But the marginal prisoner does quite a lot more than that.

I don't think this chart is the best way of tackling the problem, because if you banned low-value work it would reduce the amount of wealth you created but increase this number (which is indeed what happens). You want per capita, not per hour for this.

I think maybe I just can’t see it because you’re blocked not because I am. I was surprised that I was blocked by anyone as I haven’t beeted yet

Grandfathering is very appealing from the perspective of the UK, where we haven't regularly uprated property taxes with property values since about 1920, and we are using estimated 1992 values currently.

I imagine there is a lot of underground parking though? I haven't been to Seville specifically but it's what I tend to experience across Spain and France
