Can I gush about an app for a minute? I have to do some light video editing every now and then, but not often enough to learn the complex UIs of non-linear video editors, or to find just the right ffmpeg call. But @adhami's app Footage is just perfectly scoped. It does just the things I need […]

I love working somewhere where you can suggest doing something good and people don't immediately look at you like you're naïve and don't know how the world works.

As my brother's a comedian, I'm somewhat used to see him show up on TV or go viral or something. But for some reason one of the coolest places seeing him show up was in one of the clues of my daily crossword.

"What LLM model is best" must be some of the most boring discourse in tech in a long time. It's not just people lobbing unverifiable anecdotes at each other, but even the anecdotes are outdated in months.

I now officially have contributed code to Firefox with the release of version 152! It was just a minor change, but after over four years of working at Mozilla, I'm still happy to have finally achieved that milestone.

How long until Google offers an API to sell your products directly from the Google Search/AI UI? Free at first; later for a mere 30% cut, of course.

If you've ever wondered why you need so many people to write a browser... It's shit like this: denodell.com/blog/browsers-treat-bi…
denodell.com
Browsers Treat Big Sites Differently
Safari and Firefox change how big sites render based on the domain. TikTok, Netflix, Instagram… even SeatGuru. Chrome doesn’t. Why is that?

I thought I'd learned quite a bit about accessible interfaces over the years, but @darice just demonstrated the many ways in which we're failing people with hearing impairments. One can only hope that the Gen Z/Millennial dislike of phone calls will help improve things somewhat.

This is probably still one of my spiciest engineering takes: vincenttunru.com/100-percent-covera… Surprisingly, I've had most pushback from people considering this *too lax*. For some reason, people really want to see the "true" coverage numbers, as if those are meaningful.

Karaoke is a great example of how a lack of privacy influences people's behaviour. It's way more fun when everyone feels free to make a fool of themselves, but try doing that with a camera trained on you.

Remember when we consistently spelled it Micro$oft? Not only was that ruthless humiliation incredibly clever, but as we all know, it eventually brought us the year of the Linux Desktop. Now if we just stick with Microslop a little longer, then I'm sure Satya Nadella will course correct any day now.

Dear GitHub, I understand that this is a challenge, but could you at least show me, like, 5 or 10 files at a time? Just the prospect of pressing "Next file" hundreds of times is daunting already, let alone properly reviewing them.
Screenshot of a warning: "Due to the large number of changes in this pull request, only one file is being shown at a time."
