Nobody should tell you how to play a game, but I will say that the REmake is built with tank controls in mind and that the modern control scheme does clash with that design choice. Having the freedom to move despite the very intentional camera placement does interfere with it fundamentally imo.

I had a real bad breakdown not too long ago after looking at a perspective grid and realising how little I actually knew to put into practice with art. It's probably not something that should've upset me as much as it did, but it felt like a slap in the face for all the life worth of drawing.

It's hard to look at photos around the house of me pretransition only knowing it's because parents so often are attached to an idea of you from birth rather than the reflection of who you truly are. I find it hard to look my parents in the eyes sometimes because of that, even if it isn't malicious

It feels like a weird argument to me when people say remakes are justified for being graphically and mechanically superior when we've gotten to the point of remaking games that've aged well in the long run. OoT and FF7 still hold up despite being 30 years old. They wouldn't be revered otherwise.

I think the natural progression of where Dread took it would be more dialogue between other characters without expositing her inner thoughts to the audience in moments that aren't situational. Dread went a long way to animate Samus's expressions, which already does the job in showing her emotions.

Metroid is very much a franchise that succeeds in visual storytelling, so I don't blame the apprehension towards voice acting when it's historically led to bad scripts. Samus' introspection was always visual, so you'd have to be really sparing with where to take her dialogue.

I doubt it'll turn out bad. We're past the point of walking on eggshells with Metroid as a franchise at this point, but I just hope that means it doesn't lead to a development cycle full of crunch and a toxic work environment to get us something of quality.

Wasn't the big controversy surrounding Other M to do with the localisation framing Samus differently? I think the amount of legwork to make Samus more of an overtly individualised character would lend itself to her speaking, especially since she isn't a self-insert like Link was initially.

I hope Mercury Steam learnt a lot from developing Dread. I thought it was one of the best Metroid games in recent years, but hearing about the BTS controversies and how good the game was in spite of that makes me pray they didn't get the wrong message on how they should be approaching development.
