This International Women's Day, we are shining a light on the incredible women from our own communities in Islington and Hackney. These women, through their passion, resilience, and hard work, have defied the odds and made powerful contributions to society. From fighting for women's rights and challenging inequalities to supporting young people and tackling issues like knife crime and domestic abuse, these women are ordinary individuals who have achieved extraordinary things.

By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire others to connect with the women around them who are making a difference every day. These local champions remind us that every woman has the power to create change, challenge injustice, and make a lasting impact. Let their stories motivate us to continue building a future where every woman can thrive, be heard, and be celebrated.

Losing the #SecretGarden is like a sinkhole in the community landscape. We found some photos from the 2020 COVID period (and audio that we can't post here). The garden was one of the few places that older people could meet regularly and safely - to talk and make #music. #SocialInclusion #Hackney

Three musicians (guitar and percussion) playing near a glasshouse in a leafy garden. A few other people are listening. They are all seated and socially-distanced. It is a bright sunshiny day.

St Mary's Secret Garden - "community garden, social and therapeutic project in #Hackney, #London " - has closed. It's a place we know well, and have used for social activities. Hard to accept that such an essential service can't be funded. Feels like a local sinkhole www.stmaryssecretgarden.org.uk
