Astonishing. Did the actual ending *not* convey the profound impact the events had on Kirk? It did for most of the people who actually watched it. Also, this demonstrates how unaware Movie Guy is about TV audiences. Until streaming, FANS of a show still only watched 1/3 to 1/2 of the time!

Akiva Goldsman has often cited this classic episode to contrast how Strange New Worlds is different from the original Star Trek, saying that on SNW, Kirk wouldn’t just move on and forget a week after such an event. It appears that Goldsman wanted to take this idea to the next step and follow up with Shatner’s Kirk after the events of that classic episode, albeit using TAS-style animation, which would allow Shatner to play his younger self.
