We used to have to wait for our favorite song to play on the radio, make a mixtape of all our favorite songs and wait to see how a friend or a loved one reacted to it. There was anticipation, reward, a sense of connection with the music we shared with each other. Now it’s all in some online catalog.

Now people listen to their own personal mix (or whatever is selected by some algorithm) on a platform where more music comes out everyday than we’ve heard in our entire lives. And it’s all available instantly…which is fine, but there’s no anticipation/reward…

We grew up listening to the same radio stations our childhood friends were often listening to, sang along to the same songs walking home from school. There was a pop-cultural zeitgeist of instantly recognisable music.

I’m also painfully out of touch, but I think there’s more than one reason for that. Age, sure, obviously, but our experience of music has changed radically. The term “pop music” doesn’t make sense anymore. Popular with who? There’s an ocean of Spotify playlists and half the “listeners” are bots.

Highly positive message. A little romance. And no one was hurt. As far as I can tell, if they had fallen, they wouldn’t have fallen onto the main ceiling or over the edge, so I don’t think they were endangering the public. A trespassing fine? Sure. Public endangerment? Eh that’s a stretch imo.

I’m stuck on episode 5 and haven’t watched in almost a week. I thought the first episode was pretty good…then it was downhill from there. I love the cast, but man, the writing is SO bad. I’m honestly not that picky about writing. I can look past a lot actually. But it’s just truly horrible writing.

I was a Kool Aid swiller. I watched it several times and thought it was the greatest thing ever. And then reality set in. But it does have its moments. The pod race scene is still one of the most thrilling scenes in all of Star Wars.
