Yup. Because we have far more content given to us from celebrities on social media than we can consume, we see them all the time in media, so it’s less compelling to go to see a movie simply from interest in the star. Just go to IG. Watch a story. Done. We’re staying home.

The broad plays of generic big budget films just don’t grab audiences like before. They can play a game to get big glossy pictures. Wait for streaming. Gotta give them an experiential reason to buy a ticket.

The “Star” of your film is the experience of your film. LONGLEGS was marketed on the experience. Audiences responded to the specific experience of terror. Specific experience marketed to audiences that want it. Smaller budgets. Targeted storytelling.

Combine that with streaming delivering huge starts to us for baked in sub costs. The result is seeing a star in a thing isn’t an event. Star power is lower than it’s ever been in terms of forcing attention from audiences. So what to do?

…no one is really bankable anymore. Celebrity has changed. We all now have constant social media access to most celebrities, and they provide us new content. So you don’t have to see a movie to see them.

Red One has a chance to change feature biz. By sending everyone scurrying back to medium budgets and less bloated “star power.” All that has to happen is to convince studios they’ll hit their shareholder numbers more consistently with singles and doubles than home runs and strikeouts.
