I’m not sure about how he fits with the Sharks, but I couldn’t be more hyped about the Joshua Ravensbergen pick. Yeah it’s weird when you have Askarov. But Ravensbergen is well worth it.

The Portland Winterhawks have announced that their 2025-26 WHL home opener will be against the Saskatoon Blades on October 25. Renovations to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum mean that the Winterhawks will be on the road for over a month

The season comes to an end for the Portland Winterhawks as the Spokane Chiefs win Game 4, 6-4, and thus win the series in four games. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say that NOBODY expected them to get this far. A true testament to Kyle Gustafson and his group of players.

Diego Buttazzoni was given a major cross-checking penalty and a game misconduct for this after-the-whistle hit from behind on Shea Van Olm. The last thing the Winterhawks needed— now they’ll be trying to force a Game 5 without one of their impact players on this playoff run.

Kyle Chyzowski on how the Winterhawks can begin to dig themselves out of a 3-0 series hole tomorrow night: “It’s gonna be in the first 5 to 10 minutes. We play really well on home ice. It’s a good test for us tomorrow night, but it’s gonna be tough— it always is— but we feel good about it.”

FINAL: Chiefs 8, Winterhawks 5 A three-goal third period by Spokane propels the Chiefs to a 3-0 series lead, and the Winterhawks' season now hangs in the balance. Game 4 is tomorrow at 7 PM.

With nothing left to lose in this one, Kyle Gustafson pulled Ondrej Štěbeták with about 6 minutes left to go in the game. Winterhawks will play this one out with an extra attacker, should Spokane not convert the empty netter

Bryan Del Fava @bryandf.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

Asanali Sarkenov continues to be a thorn in the side of the Winterhawks with his fifth goal of the series, and his seventh of the playoffs. 8-5 Chiefs

The Chiefs once again answer right back as Coco Armstrong seizes a second-chance opportunity and pokes it past Štěbeták for his first goal of the playoffs. That is now a combined 36 goals through three games so far for both sides. It's currently 6-5 Chiefs

000

Bryan Del Fava @bryandf.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

Ladies and gentlemen, the Heart Attack Hawks. Josh Zakreski lets one go from the faceoff circle courtesy of a great Diego Buttazzoni setup and the shot flies past Cowan. We're tied, once again, at 5 goals apiece early in the third.

Bryan Del Fava @bryandf.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

It was only a matter of time until Andrew Cristall found the scoresheet. Berkly Catton started it with a feed to Brayden Crampton, who found Cristall down low for his 18th goal of the playoffs to make it 5-3... ...and then Joel Plante answered right back with a goal of his own.

Winterhawks turn it over in the neutral zone and the Chiefs make them pay. Mathys Preston set a perfect "pick" for Will McIsaac who roofed it. 4-2 Chiefs

Diego freakin' Buttazzoni. The Winterhawks convert on their second power-play of the game with an absolute rocket from #90-- his 13th goal of the playoffs, good enough for third in WHL playoff goal scoring. 2-2 tie at the first media timeout

010

Bryan Del Fava @bryandf.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

Chiefs answer right back as Nathan Mayes beats a screened Štěbeták from the top of the point. 2-1 Chiefs with a minute and change to go in the first stanza

Bryan Del Fava @bryandf.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

Tyson Jugnauth, right on time on the power play. He extends his playoff point streak to 11 straight games as his shot from the point gets past Dawson Cowan, and this is a tie game at one goal apiece.

Diego Buttazzoni with an ill-advised knee-on-knee hit on Cole Temple. That gets him a five-minute major, a game misconduct, and I would imagine a call from the WHL offices. Losing Buttazzoni to a possible suspension for Game 7 would be a major blow to the Winterhawks

Austin Roest makes it 6-3 Silvertips. Marek Schlenker made the first stop but lost the puck and Roest cashed in on the rebound That's a combined five goals in this period alone

Kayd Ruedig drives to the net by himself, gets a shot on Sanche, and Kyle McDonough is right there to score on the rebound for his first career playoff goal. Not a moment too soon for the Winterhawks as they get this home crowd going and cut Everett's lead in half

This Winterhawks team has so much heart. Josh Zakreski, completely against the run of play, wins it for Portland in OT… and they don’t ask how, they ask how many. This series is going back to Everett tied at 2.

I’m a little less opposed to the Chauncey extension now than I would have been a year ago. Wouldn’t have been my first choice but I get that Cronin doesn’t want to rock the boat

Make it a final from the VMC; Prince George 7, Winterhawks 2. Rough result for the Hawks this evening, who will now have to make the 12-hour bus ride up to British Columbia tonight. Game 6 is Sunday night at 6 PM.
