There are many quilters (some mathematicians) who use group theory, fractals, etc. to design quilts. Many resources are easily accessible on the internet. I have an interest in optical illusions and have a couple of those quilts in my timeline (which is pretty short!).

#quilt 5 for the summer. Another of my favorite baby quilts. The baby is due in September. Feeling Crabby by Wendy Sheppard. I modified the quilt to a smaller size (3 blocks by 4 blocks) and I “rounded” the crab balls with triangle corners.

The beauty of this pattern is no y-seams! Here is a picture of a previous quilt in progress.

#quilt 2 for the summer. In the book “Quilts for Katie Rose” by Marsha McCloskey. I have posted this same pattern before. It is my favorite baby quilt. I have made it around 15 times. My wife has dibs on this one for a colleague and his new baby!
Tumbling blocks baby quilt.

It is a lot of piecing. But that is my favorite part. The pattern is a 60 page book with great instructions.

I finished my first #quilt of the summer. Elizabeth Hartman “Show and Tell” pattern. I purchased the recommended animal and background fabrics but I made the mini-quilts from my stash.

Not the same #quilt but a similar feel. Made in 2023 from a pattern created by a friend off a picture he saw.
Queen sized quilt from bright scraps with four matching throw pillows.

I only worry about the dark threads that stray into the lighter fabrics. I trim those last, just before I layer with batting. You will go crazy if you worry about every little frayed edge.

I finished my sweater for the year. Pretty simple pattern but I learned some new techniques. #knitting

Comments from a quilter and math teacher. If you choose 19 by 20, you would need 15 extra days. You could replace those with a temperature gradient set of squares—a key to reading the quilt. Moda has some good ideas: www.modafabrics.com/inspiration-...

I saw the Wooly Stars patten at a shop this year (www.etsy.com/listing/1150...) and knew I wanted to make a baby #quilt. I made one of the sheep black and facing left. Turned out just how I wanted!

I am a teacher and only #quilt in the summers. Here is my first quilt of the summer! A friend wanted a peachy pink quilt for her queen sized bed.

Always use them. These are leftovers from a Christmas #quilt. I make pot holders and give them as gifts or donate for sale for charity.

After contemplating, I decided to shorten my new sweater. It was a top down #knitting project so pretty easy to do. Here is the new result:

I choose not to quilt during the school year (I am a math professor and if I have a choice to grade papers or quilt, well…you know!). So this was my winter project.

#quilt from 2012. The embroidery in the middle took a looooong time. This is the only quilt I have ever sent out to be machine quilted on a long arm. We thought the music notes were wrong so we fixed a couple!

Last day of final exams. And last holiday #mathshirt of 2024. #quilt in the background is my wife’s.

This is the design phase on that pattern (different quilt, same pattern, mostly same fabrics).

Do you have a go to baby #quilt pattern? This is my favorite one but it takes a while. Complete with cute baby (friend’s) who is now a petulant teenager.

Yes. Occasional baby #quilt. I only have a picture of a top.

I wear #mathteacher shirts at the end of the semester. Students seem to love them! I know I do. Yesterday’s shirt is on the left and today’s is on the right. #quilt

My niece wanted a pink bunny #quilt for her daughter. After searching the web, we were inspired by a couple, but couldn’t find a pattern. So my wife drew the bunnies and I appliquéd and quilted. In the non-bunny squares, I quilted carrots. You have to zoom in pretty close to see them!

Queen-sized. Several of them. It is hard but gratifying.

I prefer a single fabric backing. I love turning a quilt over to see the effect of the quilting—I do all my own machine quilting on a regular sewing machine and I like seeing the patterns.
