I'll be back in LA next week! I'm looking forward to seeing lots of folks and then hitting up the Lucas Museum after my office hours are finished each evening. :-D

Artist! Quote with the artwork you cannot explain! Sometimes you just go with the flow. I was allowed to do some very abstract world-building for a client recently and this was the fruit!

Thanks, Katie! Just gotta put some NDA work up on my wall (and avoid public pictures of the dining area until they're not NDA), I guess!

Prepping some D&D paintings to send to the buyer. I'll miss these ones!

Yeah, aside from a tonal sketch, a digital final piece. My fifth card for MTG.

It's so good to be back home for the next month or so! Nearby Planet MTG Unfinity AD: “I challenge anyone to cram seven different MTG landtypes into one illustration as well as you've done here. And you can quote me on that.” —the legendary Dawn Murin

I'm working on some cool things to bring to MagicCon Atlanta in a month and a half or so: see below. Yes, finally more expanded art from my very first set for MTG! I'm still working on Breeding Pool, but Fabled Passage and Stomping Ground should be ready as playmats by then.

One of the highlights of any con is dinner with my art pals! It's the perfect time to catch up with friends and make new ones as well. @dragoncon.org was no exception! It was a blast hanging out with y'all, and looking forward to @ixarts.bsky.social next month!

Ahh, after one day at home, now I'm off to DragonCon! Can't wait to see so many friends there. I've also got a side quest to see some very iconic art while I'm in the area--can't wait!

My work is hanging up at LA Con V this weekend in Anaheim. Go check it out!

Thanks! To be fair, the collectors I've heard from like it too. A nice affirmation that when I want to do something I think is fitting, I really should just do it.

I think the key with this one was, I didn't want the oil seepage to distract too much from the painting itself, so staining the surrounding frame with Burnt Sienna and purple helped reduce contrast.

Bruce Brenneise 🔜SCG LA @brucedraws.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

Thanks! So far so good, I'm getting affirmations from a few collectors I know.

I painted up the frame on the Bloodstained Mire. Is it wise and will collectors like that? No idea: I'm out of control, I do what I want! Come see it hanging in the show at LA Con V this weekend!

Thanks, and totally get that. This one has taken a long time for just that reason!

Aw, glad you're enjoying it! Excellent that you were able to make use of the rest of the image in this way.

As promised the full art for 'Along the Crooked Way', for MTG Hobbit. AD: Cassie Murphy I wanted to capture a still moment, high in the passes of the Misty Mountains at night, a pause before the violence to come. Also, I really liked the fractured stone the orc band stands on.

"Where there's a whip, *whooopssh* there's a [crooked] way!" For my one card in The Hobbit set in MTG, I met some nasty goblinses and orcs high in the Misty Mountains one night and captured this still moment before bad things befell. AD: Cassie Murphy

Hey all my GenCon-bound friends, I'm missing you! I'm about to embark on my free trip to Chile instead. 😇 Portland > Atlanta > Santiago, 13 hours in flight. I hope we all have safe travels and excellent shows this week!

I haven't been able to share any rough sketches in a while, but this project isn't covered by a WotC NDA, so here we go! A lovely author client is letting me go hog wild with something that mostly just needs to sit between genres vibe-wise, and I'm having fun. :-)

Near midground is based on hot spring pools with mats of algae forming on the surface. Near background is mountains made of vast coral-like structures. Far background has a hint of a giant glacier wall beyond the mountain ridge with a generalized glow in the air above.

This sort of thing may be lost on most of the audience, but I have to post about it somewhere: I broke this environment down into four discrete sections. Foreground focuses on vegetation: a mix of coral, succulent, and bird of paradise flower influences.
