Comparing systems to plan span upgrades, 40x400G bookend solution with optics for 5 channels will end up being less cost effective as a 800G coherent pair approaches the cost of 2x400G coherent pair. Then a 32x800G would mean having 25.6TB available capacity vs 16TB. Lets go 800!

I forgot to scale my UPS up since the new system draws 500w+ under load, and just booting cp2077 tripped the UPS max wattage load. So a new shiny 1500/1500 arrives Weds to replace the aging 750/500.

Find and love you a vendor that can speak in OSNR limits about their kit. This one in particular I've been pushing to purchase from since we evaluated 100G DWDM, albeit after Infinera bought our other deployed vendor platform :/ Would really love to deploy some of these 40ch 400G bookends!

That feeling at midnight when you accidentally remove some critical component of Cinnamon and then X stops X-ing, and yer tired and you look at the install and think..."if I back up /home...". And then its 1AM and the system is fully re-installed & restored in working order. NO TOUCH!

Successfully migrated from the old pre-covid prebuilt from MSI, to the new semi-custom CyberPower rig. Added in the capture card, hooked up the GH4 and confirmed OBS is happy. 10G SFP+ NIC installed with a 6-mode copper to get it online at max capacity. 1T+1T+

Acasis AC-VS2583 Linux driver only works on 6x kernels, they don't have anything compiling under 7.x branch yet. Booted the new PC back into 6.x and capture card works fine. Emailed them asking if they are working on 7.x drivers.

Back in 2010, I took time to get to know the cheap Lumix m4/3 camera I bought, as I've always enjoyed photography. I blame dad and the darkroom in the basement with all the fixer and stopper smells as we'd develop B&W shots when I was a kid. Now I have a 2nd hand GH4 body and am excited again!

Ok, not bad, not bad. Found a case in storage I hadn't e-wasted yet, and still had SATA cables. Pulled and cleaned one up, looked at the PSU leads again and 1 SATA power was eaten by ARGB/fans, and 1 free. Moved a 2T SSD in and now all that it waits for is the capture card.

Overnight burn-in and stress test shows a happy new AMD build. Only changes left to do are migrate a spare 2T SSD from the current rig, and install the capture card arriving next week. 7800X3D/32G-DDR5/9070 is so fast compared to the older i7-10K/64G-DDR4/3060ti. Vulcan shaders load in seconds now!

I'm going to have to fire up a Windows vm just to install some silly ASUS RGB software in order to actually disable RGB since UEFI BIOS "stealth" mode didn't do anything. None of the options in BIOS did anything. The digital rainbow continues.

Initial impression of the Cyberpower custom (not prebuilt), is everything was securely installed, no rattle, cleanly wired: ✅ POSTed with no issues; BIOS tweaked as needed, boots off Linux USB installer: ✅ 58min from inspection/cabling, to OS/apps installed & patched. A nice fast AMD build so far.

Interesting to see how ppl are trying to get into tech with some typical 2-4 year tech coding project until 2025-present with like a SLEW of AI term-laden projects being churned out under 6mo. TAC-Plus headaches abound on NANOG, makes me recall when boss asked in the NOC (20+ years ago) if someone could get it up and running for the gear. I was done in minutes, handed him a saved running config, and he locked himself out of a test VXR by pasting AAA commands in the wrong order 🫠

Some facilities tick me off. Order 3x XCs; before they are delivered, the landing device fails and is hardware replaced. Facility finally gets to running the XCs, and leave them hanging and inform Z-side "A-side replaced a failed switch, but the CFA is for the old switch label; left hanging."

After being the primary workhorse pot since RJ originally bought it to make breads with (20 years ago I think?), the Le Cruset 5.5qt finally had the inner surface chip pretty gnarly while heating it up for a chili today. Ordered a replacement, and went back to the even older stainless 7qt workhorse.

This week been kinda hell. Dialysis machine has been constantly overheating (bag too hot alarms; shutting down) so I only get about 40-60% of the day's treatment. The house is no longer getting under 85F even at the dead of early AM at like 3-4 its still 89F inside. HVAC at this point is struggling.

No way that Exiled Heavy Knight gets a second season. The first one is made up of 23 mins eps where 3 mins are op/ed, and 15+ mins are recycled footage from all the previous episodes. All to pad an ep so you don't notice only 5 new minutes of footage. To recycle again next week.... BOO.
