Snowflakes disappeared on Greyurra's icy skin as the silver drow dragged her captive down the mountain. The sooner she was out of here, the better. She did not want to waste more time in the druid camp with the company she'd been travelling with for the past several weeks. Their paths had aligned briefly through a common enemy, and that was it. Grey peered down at that unconscious male drow, the tendons in her fingers stiff in the cold. She was pleased with having Unthar at her whims, though without a conclusion to her plans yet, she was unable to find any joy in it. She was almost there. The male stirred briefly and Grey halted, red eyes fixed onto his bruised face. *I dare you to wake up.* But he did not. That *jaluk* grew still again, his face turning the other way in the snow. For a moment, a part of her wished he did. She wanted to slit his stomach and watch his gore spill, to see his clamouring hands desperately trying to keep himself in his body. But that was mercy that she did not hold, nor did he deserve.
If only Dilynrae were here.
The brightness of the snowy path seared into Grey's mind, and a small wrinkle underlined her eyes as she blinked. The woman's fingers rubbed at the spider-silk ribbon wrapped over her palm—her spell-casting focus and the hair accessory that used to adorn her lover Dilynrae's pale hair. Until, Unthar decided he'd rather have that promotion, and framed her for treason. The next time Greyuura saw her lover of 90 years was in the underdark wilds, lost to insanity from having been turned into a drider.
Greyurra shut her eyes briefly and swallowed thickly at the mental image of her lover's eight hollow eyes.
She never wanted anything. She *couldn't*. She was sentenced to be a spy the moment she was born, sentenced to a life of secrecy out of the public eye. But… Dilynrae was *hers*.
She numbly continued to drag Unthar through the snow, focused on her singular goal.
