The figure directly across from the speaker—Lyre—moved into the circle. Unlike the others her body was shivering beneath the robe from the chilly late-autumn breeze. As she approached she pulled back her hood to reveal the fiery orange ponytail beneath.

“For the past three lunar cycles you have walked with the pack. You have eaten with us, slept with us, and even mated with some of us.” The leaders facade broke slightly as they glanced towards two members of the outer ring, both turning away to avoid their gaze. “Regardless of any—ultimately insignificant—departures from our traditions, we have agreed to offer you a place as a full fledged member of our pack, should you still wish to accept it.”

“Very well then,” announced the leader as she pulled back her hood, “as the chosen speaker of the pack I, Shale Moongrove, shall personally pass the moon’s blessing to you, please strip and present your hand.” Her mature face and silver hair seemed to glimmer unnaturally bright under the light of the moon.

Lyre slipped off her robe, revealing she was wearing nothing else beneath. After taking another moment to slip of her gloves and kick of her shoes she offered her hand to Shale, their ears sliding up their skull. The celebratory howls from the others drowned out Lyre’s yelp of pain as she flinched from the bite, Shale’s mouth stretching out into a muzzle as they released her hand.
