In center city, outside of a Jewish deli, he said something to the effect of, "It is so wonderful here. Your city is so rich with culture." He pointed at the deli. "We have nothing like this in Germany." I was perhaps a little too blunt in my response: "And whose fault is that?" 3/4

Back in the... mid-nineties?... a cousin of mine from Germany was visiting the U.S. He was interested in seeing Philadelphia, so I took him on an ad-hoc tour. I took him through the worst parts of the city and the best, and everything in between. 1/x
