Totally agree with you, Brittany. One thing I love is when an absurd list of “things” is added to the text. I want it to be a little excessive and chaotic.

111

Brittany Pomales @brittanypomales.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

What instantly makes a funny picture book funnier for you? For me: When a character makes an assumption or completely misunderstands a situation. Especially when its used as an opportunity for witty dialogue and chaos.

I loved teaching the Picture Book Humor Lab but if I’m honest… It’s tough for me to do LIVE sessions right now. And that’s okay. So I crafted the Kidlit Haha Laugh & Draft. More affordable (only $21) Less time commitment (3 days) Same vibes 👇 ko-fi.com/s/86f3ab474d

In the past, we’ve heard from editors at the Big 5. This year we are flipping the script—or should I say book—and getting insights from an editor at a small press (some might even call it little!) Can you guess the editor and author of this modern fairytale early reader?

Alright y’all! Time for Kidlit Haha Week GUESS WHO. This PB author twisted a nursery rhyme into one of the best read alouds of 2025. Who could it be? Comment your guesses below.
