We’ve implemented single-file collections because I know that, among (showcased) @sveltiacms.app users, vanilla JavaScript is the second most popular “framework” with a 15% share. My extensive research into showcases not only aims to share examples, but also to enable data-driven decision-making.

We launched the showcase in January with 60 sites. While we’ll never know the exact number of users, I can see real growth: a tenfold increase in 8 months. Not bad for a personal project?

My showcase research has found more legacy. Many sites still use HTTP, and some still use table layouts. You know what? I was a CSS layout advocate back in the 2000s and translated @stopd.bsky.social’s article “Throwing Tables Out the Window” into Japanese, which was a pivotal moment in my career.

I also witnessed a sudden surge in 11ty sites 3 month ago. We’ll never know why. While at @mozilla.org, I learned firsthand that competition strengthens an industry and gives users more options. So it’s great to see you’re doing well.

We’ll never know the exact number of users, but based on my intensive tracking of GitHub repositories, this increase should be accurate. I’m sure no one else in the CMS industry does this kind of research, which includes finding out which CMSs people are migrating from.

#Jamstack framework watch, September edition: Following the mainstream adoption of vanilla JavaScript, custom tooling is gaining traction and is set to surpass Next.js and Jekyll. Together, they now account for 25%+ of static sites. Astro 35%+, Hugo ~10%.

Market consolidation continues in the #Jamstack framework sector. The combined market share of #Astro and vanilla #JavaScript among the featured @sveltiacms.app users now exceeds 50%. The top four, including #Eleventy and #Hugo, account for 75%.

I’m on track to add 100 examples to the @sveltiacms.app Showcase this month! As for the framework stats, Eleventy maintains a narrow lead over vanilla JavaScript. New Hugo sites are rare these days.

Overall, I think the Svelte team is doing a fantastic job, but delaying bug fixes could lead to a degraded DX, as I argued the other day. The lack of a release strategy undermines their efforts to build a great framework.

Svelte’s uneven releases continue. v5.56.5 was shipped 4 weeks after v5.56.4 and contains 10 bug fixes, some of which could have been released earlier. Meanwhile, v5.56.7 was released with only one one seemingly unimportant patch change. They really have no release strategy.

@sveltiacms.app does a weird thing: It’s written in Svelte, but it supports React-based plugins that mount Svelte components. It’s a framework sandwich! This unique architecture ensures compatibility with Netlify/Decap CMS. 🥪

Looks like the future of Ripple is uncertain, as the maintainer has started a React-like framework called Octane. So @sveltiacms.app has to stick with Svelte for now, but I’ll consider other frameworks at some point.

I do one of these: - Adding sites to exceptions to allow cookies (mainly for GitHub) - Using a different Firefox profile with cookies enabled (mainly for Google and other services) - Using Chrome (mainly for online banking)

Next.js, Nuxt and now Svelte. While I’m not a big fan of conspiracy theories and I understand that different teams maintain these frameworks, I feel that it’s Vercel that is making the web inaccessible.

As expected, Hugo is now in 4th place in the framework ranking. I wouldn’t be surprised if vanilla JS overtakes Eleventy as well.

But, ugh, I should really think about moving away from Svelte. svelte.dev now joins nextjs.org and nuxt.com among many sites that crash when cookies are disabled.

We’ve got the 100th Astro site in the Sveltia CMS showcase. Astro and Eleventy have a roughly 2:1 share. It’s interesting to see SvelteKit in 7th place — its static adapter is a hidden gem.

I monitor a bunch of projects on GitHub to develop @sveltiacms.app showcase, but a lot of them never get completed. The failure rate? Maybe 50%. Thanks to AI, it’s never been easier to start new projects, but finishing them is still a big challenge especially for non-tech users.
