My first market in a while is happening this weekend! I’m tabling at a neurodiversity event. I couldn’t do many markets because of my neurological issues this Christmas but my brains back my creativity’s back, I even went to a concert and the light don’t make me sick, woo!

It took a long time to realize that it wasn’t my “weakness” that made me quit, it was the toxicity of the environment. That industry was not healthy for me. I had to choose my wellbeing over my dream job.

It’s really affected my mental health and it’s something I bring up in therapy a lot. I always feel like a failure for not following my dreams, not pushing myself harder to reach those goals I had. But every day at work was just shit talking and judging.

Fun fact about me is after I finished film school I wanted to be a casting agent and work with actors I did a bunch of stuff but I burned out so fast (I didn’t know I was autistic and peopling all the time was killing me). Anyway I quit cause the industry is toxic as hell.

Except autism isn’t developed after birth. And to suggest that autism is the result of trauma or bad parenting is just as bad as claiming it’s caused by vaccines. Autism is genetic & adults notice the traits usually after socializing is introduced. So daycare age or older. It’s not rocket science.

Also it completely dismisses the fact that it’s so dynamic for us. How can we judge who is “more autistic”? One autistic person who can do well at school but not know how to tie their shoes? Or Another autistic person who might be “normal” at home but have regular meltdowns in restaurants?

I’m literally autistic myself. Also I read many of the studies. They are flawed and do not take into consideration many things that affect the results. Lots of them ended with “needs more research” or “inconclusive”.

Asperger’s is not longer in the dsm5 as its own thing, fyi, since like 2013. When you get diagnosed with autism level one a doctor might mention “Asperger’s traits”, but it’s not really a thing anymore. Lots of issues with it. Glad they got rid of it imo.
