For many people, accessing abortion care means traveling far from home and navigating the costs and logistics that come with it. The Brigid Alliance helps make that journey possible by supporting transportation, lodging, meals, and other practical needs.

After nearly 21 years, abortion care is once again available closer to home for people in MO. Planned Parenthood Great Rivers’ Springfield clinic has started offering medication abortion, helping reduce the distance many patients have to travel to access care: missouriindependent.com/2026/07/27/a...
Text reads: Abortion returns to southwest Missouri

It’s been nearly 21 years since Missourians living in Springfield could access abortion without driving at least a couple hours. The city’s Planned Parenthood clinic recently began offering medication abortion, ending a stretch that started in October 2005, when Springfield Healthcare Center closed and left the city without an abortion provider.

Four years after Dobbs, nearly 63 million people live in states where abortion is banned or restricted. Our expanded block funding program helps trusted clinic partners provide support earlier, reducing financial and logistical barriers to care. 💚 Read more: brigidalliance.org/the-brigid-a...
Bright bold text reads: We’re expanding our work to help more people access abortion care
We’re expanding our block funding to help partner clinics distribute funds at their discretion, which also formally broadens The Brigid Alliance’s model to serve pregnant people across gestational ages.Bright bold white and orange text reads: The current landscape is dramatically increasing the financial barrier for people seeking abortion care. 42% of abortion patients face catastrophic health expenditures, and are forced to choose between care and basic needs like food and housing. For those traveling out of state, that figure jumps to 65%. Block funding is how we’ll reach people at all stages of pregnancy with direct funding, distributed by the clinics helping them access care.
Bright orange and white text reads: What is block funding? Block funding allows The Brigid Alliance to allocate resources directly to trusted clinic partners to cover costs in three core areas: Practical & logistical support, including transportation, lodging, child care and meals;
Procedure & medication support that ensures patients get the timely care they need;
Contraceptive care, which gives patients the option of accessing voluntary comprehensive contraceptive care before returning home. Bright bold text reads: DONATE to help us get people to abortion care – whatever it takes.

Months passed, and I was still struggling—feeling torn about bringing a baby into a broken home. Eventually, I found a clinic in New Mexico that could help, but the cost was $2,500.”Bold text reads: Brickelle, 31 “Abortion is illegal in Tennessee, and the political climate around all of it added another layer of pressure. Beyond the physical barriers to abortion care, there is a mental load placed on abortion seekers that often goes unseen. It’s the stress of arranging travel, the pressure of affording care, the need to coordinate time off work or childcare, the weight of making everything align, and so much more.

We're relieved The Supreme Court preserved access to mifepristone by mail while the case makes its way through the lower courts. But access shouldn't have been on the table to begin with. The whiplash on these decisions and lawsuits causes confusion and delays care for abortion seekers.
Bold text reads: We're relieved The Supreme Court preserved access to mifepristone by mail while the case makes its way through the lower courts. But access shouldn't have been on the table to begin with. The whiplash on these decisions and lawsuits causes confusion and delays care for abortion seekers. Read a statement from our ED Serra Sippel.Black text reads: The back-and-forth of this case does have a cost. Confusion and uncertainty can delay care, and every day makes a difference. When people are pushed later into pregnancy, abortion becomes harder to access, more expensive, and many more miles further from home. The cost of that whiplash falls on the people who can least afford it - the same people Brigid serves every day.
Text reads: Here's what today's ruling doesn't change: Last year, we helped 1,879 people travel for care. That was a 35% jump from the year before. With or without today's decision, those numbers will keep climbing as broader restrictions tighten across the country. One ruling doesn't fix a system this broken.

So we'll take the relief and then we'll keep working.
