Patriots of Horley intended to harass asylum seekers outside the Home Office reporting centre. In response, about 150 antifascists assembled to stop them, including locals and comrades from London Community Defence. The message is clear: Croydon’s diverse community will take no shit from racists.

Antifascists from Brighton travelled to Croydon yesterday to support Croydon Community Action against a planned demonstration by Horley Patriots. The Horley racists, who have mobilised large numbers locally to intimidate migrants housed in local hotels, on this occasion failed to show up at all!

It was great to see so many people from all different backgrounds turn out to join the march. This is especially important because Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven have been hit hard with far-right flag activity over the last few months, including violent attacks on people who have removed flags.

A gang of us travelled from Brighton yesterday to support the anti-racist demo in Newhaven. About 300 people joined the ‘Everybody’s Haven’ march which wound around the town centre before finishing with a rally and music at the bandstand on Denton Island.

Respectfully, this kind of behaviour seems to be exactly the logical progression of "patriotism". Patriotism isn't a neutral value to be reclaimed or defended: devotion to the myth of the "country" is the thin end of the wedge leading to nationalism, xenophobia and racism.
