ECMAScript excitement 😉 Congrats to Dan Minor @mozilla.org on advancing the Upsert proposal to Stage 4 at TC39 today 🎉 let map = new Map(); map.getOrInsert(key, defaultVal); It lets you set a default value on a map key without overwriting an existing value 👍
// Currently
let prefs = new getUserPrefs();
if (!prefs.has("useDarkmode")) {
  prefs.set("useDarkmode", true); // default to true
}

// Using getOrInsert
let prefs = new getUserPrefs();
prefs.getOrInsert("useDarkmode", true); // default to true

ECMAScript excitement 😉 Congrats to @bridgear.bsky.social on advancing Error Option Limit to Stage 1 @tc39 today 🎉 It allows the captured stack depth to be limited on a per-object basis 👍 It removes the need to rely on implementation-specific global APIs. github.com/tc39-transfe...
new Error(message, { limit: 3 })
new TypeError(message, { limit: 0 })
new RangeError(message, { limit: 50 })
new AggregateError(iterable, message, { limit: Infinity })
// ... applies to all built-in Error constructors that accept an options bag

ECMAScript excitement 😉 Congrats to @bridgear.bsky.social @jordan.har.band on advancing Object.getNonIndexStringProperties to Stage 1 at TC39 today 🎉 Given an object, it provides an array of enumerable own properties that are not numeric indices. github.com/BridgeAR/arr...
const a = [1, 2, 3];
a.description = "coords";
Object.defineProperty(a, "secret", {
  value: true,
  enumerable: false,
});
a[5] = 42;

Object.getNonIndexStringProperties(a);
// ["description"] ("secret" is non‑enumerable)

Object.getNonIndexStringProperties({ foo: 1, bar: 2 });
// ["foo", "bar"] (works on any object)

ECMAScript excitement 😉 Congrats to @bridgear.bsky.social @jordan.har.band on advancing Object.keysLength to Stage 2 at TC39 today 🎉 let count = Object.keysLength(o) It counts the string-keyed own properties on an object. This avoids the cost of the intermediate array in Object.keys(o).length
const obj = { a: 1, b: 2 };
const count = Object.keys(obj).length;

Node excitement 😉 Congrats to @joyeecheung.bsky.social on landing code-caching for TypeScript files in Node 🎉 It speeds up 2nd-time loading of TS via a two-level disk cache: 1. TS ➡️ JS 2. JS ➡️ V8 Bytecode @kdy1.bsky.social is working on direct UTF-8 support in SWC-Wasm to make this even faster 💙

We are discussing how to manage the content from official @nodejs.org account(s) on Bluesky! github.com/nodejs/blues... Which one would you prefer following? a) Just one @nodejs.org account for everything b) Two official accounts with different focus: e.g. nodejs.dev + @nodejs.org b) other ideas?
github.com
Which accounts should we have? · Issue #1 · nodejs/bluesky
Converting from nodejs/admin#932, some ideas were proposed to have multiple accounts. We have registered nodejs.org (see nodejs/admin#932) whose credentials are in the Node.js and OpenJS 1Password....
