#MJohnHarrison Settling the World. Wow. This collection of stories was fantastic. I bought it in a bookshop from the science fiction section, but science fiction this is not. Weird, yes, otherworldly, sinister, and all done with such sumptuous writing. A book to take your time with 'cos its so lush.

#book #buch #TomerGardi Bit of a depressing read, but nicely compiled set of tales that connect in some ways. I enjoyed (getting sad) reading it. Central theme is delivery riders and living on not enough money and hopes and dreams.

Got this today. #henogledd I can't stop listening to it. I can't describe it either, except for "great". Let me try, Incredible String Band meets Sufjan Stevens meets a bit of Zappa and its probably post-something too.

Brilliant. The style and content is exactly what I look for in a story. During reading I would occasionally lay it down so that I could enjoy thinking about what I had just read. My fourth Nina Allan book and I am hungry for more. #book #books #ninaallan

Flesh by #davidszalay This is a book you can read in a few days, but will make you think for weeks. It's about a lot of stuff, which for me includes fate, agency, nihilism, moral. People say they unexpectedly empathise with the main character - yes I did too. I recommend this book.

Book cover, white, with the Authors name, David Sszalay in black and the title, Flesh, made up so we can see a photo of a housing estate with fields through the letters.

This is only my third #NinaAllan book, but she is already a favourite. These stories are like nightmares/dreams/thriller/horror but so subtle - maybe ominous and disturbing are better descriptions. Two of the stories I immediately re-read:
