The scene was mostly unnecessary exposition. Most of the information in it is explored elsewhere already. The remaining bits that need hashed out are being inserted into a snappier and (hopefully) more engaging replacement scene. Discovery through action rather than spoonfeeding via dialogue.

Just killed a major character for the first time and I think I succeeded at making his death unexpected. Not sure what direction I want to take the fall out, though. Might be too early on in the protagonist's character development to hit the note I really want to go for. Eh. Fuck it we ball.
